Mac Specs Questions
« on: July 10, 2012, 11:31:58 AM »
I'm not the computer-genius type, so I was hoping someone could help me out.
I'm considering replacing my current macbook pro with a new one.

Current Specs:
intel core 2 duo 2.26 ghz processor with 3MB cache
2 GB DDR3 1067 mhz RAM
256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 9400M GPU
250 GB Hitachi 5400rpm HDD
Mac OS X Lion
2.5 years old, purchased May 2009

I'm having major issues with lag, crashing, etc. I'm at the point where I'm ready to uninstall most of the expansions and stuff packs just so I can play without having to spend more time sitting and waiting than actually playing. I already have all graphics settings turned as low as they go. I have all stuff packs and expansions up to Showtime installed and a fair amount of purchased store content. I never play online with simport because my laptop simply cannot handle it.

Being a loyal Apple-slave, I'm looking to buy a new MacBook Pro.
Specs:
13-inch: 2.5 GHz
2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM — 2x4GB
750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
Intel HD Graphics 4000

However, I don't know what any of those numbers and letters mean... so will it even make a difference? Will the graphics card (video card?) be compatible with Sims?

Have you already bought this new MacBook? I'm curios how The Sims work. How's the game play? Any lags? I guess the better CPU will make a difference. Regarding the graphics I don't have glue. But at least the RAM will make the game play experience a HUGE difference. So please tell me how it works.
I consider buying a new Mac as well, so it would be nice to hear from you and your experiences.

I did not buy the new mac in the end, I bought an Asus laptop with more and better of everything, for less money. The Intel graphics card in the Mac would have likely been a problem. The Asus has a very good nVidia card. My game has never run better. Sorry I couldn't give you a review.

Don't worry. Thanks for the reply anyway!
Although I'm sad that you didn't stay a Mac user ;) I can understand it nevertheless. As long as someone is using a computer only for personal use and gaming, it's always simplier to use a PC.

I still have my old mac and use it for basically everything, downloading, internet, document-writing, music, photos, etc. The Asus is ONLY for sims!

Ahhh, that's wonderful to read. And I guess that's pure luxury. ;)
