Stuck in build/buy mode when editing a lot

I wanted to edit a lot by using the cheat testingcheatsenabled on, but when I entered build/buy mode, the options disappeared and I got stuck while my mouse was “loading”. I eventually had to force quit, but does anyone know how to prevent this? (I’ve tried: using F1- F3 & clicking the pause button)

I've never found a way to truly prevent it (it just happens sometimes on large lots), but did you try going to Edit Town?

Now that you’ve mentioned it, the lot that I was trying to edit was indeed quite large.. (don’t know which one exactly but it was a club which came with show time)

F5 also brings up the Options menu, for future reference.

On my laptop F5 is the button for a different function :/

Does the Pause button appear up top right of the screen? Try pressing that to get out?

If you're able to get to your in-game options and back out to the Edit Town menu, you should be able to safely save the game. It's a matter of finding out what key combo works for you. As like you mentioned, F5 doesn't work on some computers.
