Carter's XL Display Case and Transfiguration
« on: September 08, 2012, 04:35:26 AM »
Hey Y'all I am having a problem with getting the carters xl display case to work, is there a specific amount of items you have to have on it to get it to allow you to access transfiguration, I have tried to put 25 ingots of plutonium on there and it would only allow me to view what I have put on the case and not access the transfiguration menu, btw I am playing on the ps3 version of the sims 3 pets, I have tried multiple games and many many saves but still also the case will not let me put anything on the top level, I have tried both the xl case and the smaller case  but no matter what I do I cannot access the transfiguration menu.

Any help on this issue would be appreciated!

Sorry I've never used it.  I have that same game.  I hope someone can help you.  You might try youtube or something maybe there's a video on there where someone is using it that might help you.

I'd like to see an answer too. I have yet to transfigure anything.

Have you checked Carl's Guide on transfiguration?  It's here:  http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/skills/collecting/worldadventures/transfiguration.php

Of course, the Guide is for the PC version of the game, but it still may have useful information for you, I hope.

yeah I have checked the guide and preformed many online searches, looking at forums and youtube and other sources and still cannot figure out why I cannot transfigure anything nor put anything on the top shelf of the display case, I have tried metals, gems, relics, spirits, and just about everything else I can try and I am getting disappointed in EA, I have tried to contact EA tech support and they just say it is an in game issue and they cannot help me. I really wish I could figure this out :'(

That sounds very frustrating, biggienc.  Unfortunately I've only ever played Sims on PC so I'm afraid I have no more suggestions to offer.  I hope you do find an answer for it, and if you do, please let us know.

I would say that the fact that you have not got anything on the top shelf is the reason you cannot access transfiguration. So the problem is trying to place items there. Have you tried selling that particular case and replacing it with a new one? Have you tried zooming in when trying to place items? I know on the pc version, it can be tricky getting things in the right place - I often end up with items on the ground behind it.

yes I have tried to zoom in and tried selling the case and buying a new one, but I cannot even select the  case in live mode and I can only put stuff on it in build and buy mode, but even after I bought and sold a new one I still cannot access the case.

I use the big case all the time (just last night in fact) and have not had trouble.  I think you can only have 8 items on it - one item in each slot.  Maybe you can stack multiple ingots, but I don't think so.  I think your trouble is that each of the 8 slots *has* to be filled.

Getting items on the back shelf can be fussy.  The best way I have found is to always fill the lower shelf first, then the shelf helps force things back.  It still can be a bit of work sometimes, with gems, to find just the right place your cursor needs to go to get things on there.

Also, if you happen to have "move objects" on, turn it off - you'll never get things placed that way as they "sink" to the floor.

Another thing to try is tilt your view angle so you are looking STRAIGHT down at the back shelf (get it centered right in the middle of your screen) and this often makes it a lot easier to place things.  This is also the only way I have been able to place things on the slidable wall shelf from Generations.

Another tip is to get something placed on the front of the shelf and while you are still holding it with you mouse, hit your "m" key which will toggle the item through all the slots on an object.  You can use that on any surface - it's quite useful.

Edit:  I just caught that you are not on a PC which means you probably have to maneuver differently than I suggest.  But the bottom line is, it may be the 8-item/slot issue that is tripping you up, which would be true no matter what form of the game you are playing.
