Electronic Arts folder in Public Documents
« on: September 29, 2012, 06:13:16 AM »
I managed somehow to completely delete my Electronic Arts folder (ironically, while backing up) through an attack of complete idiocy.  I copied back the folder from an earlier backup but then found that the game had now generated a second EA folder in Public Documents and was using that instead of the one in my own Documents file.  Doing a complete uninstall and reinstall hasn't fixed the problem.

I've had a look on the internet and have seen other people with the same problem (mostly with Sims 2) but no solutions suggested other than reinstalling.

I'd patched up to 1.39 just before this happened.

Any ideas?

Edited to add: I'm not bothered about the files being in the wrong place but the people who'd had this previously seemed to have had frequent crashes to desktop and I'd certainly mind that.

Have you tried renaming the other folder something other than The Sims 3 and seeing if it would change it's mind or make a new one?

Or were they already named differently in the two locations?

OK, this is weird.  I renamed the folder in Public Documents and now it's created a My Documents folder to put the Electronic Arts and Sims 3 folders in, as if it thinks I'm using an older operating system (I'm on Windows 7).

Update: renaming/deleting the My Documents folder didn't help - it just created a new one.
I've now done two more uninstall/reinstalls (of just the base game), deleting all Electronic Arts folders (I found another My Documents in the Guest account that seems to have been there since April) and manually uninstalling files left behind by the normal uninstall process.  I've also cleaned the registry.
It's still creating the folder in Public Documents rather than the Owner account.

Problem solved (finally).  Creating a new user account for myself and then reinstalling from there appears to have fixed it.
