I’m having strange happenings at some of my apartment skyscrapers – Anyone have a clue why?  (Legitimate gameplay, or a sign that my game is heading for a meltdown?)

1)  Sims are leaving books out front on the ground.  A lot of books.  Usually, at least one a day.  In one building it was a dozen copies of “Serving Without Being Served” (or something like that, I can’t remember).  At the building I’ve been playing most recently, it seems to be a wide variety of titles (and not as frequently).  They are all unusual titles – no skill or common books.  I love free books as much as the next gal – kind of tickled, actually, that they keep appearing like the book fairy left them for me – but it seems like a sign of something not right with my game.  I thought it might be a problem with my mailbox being blocked or something and the mail carrier not being able to deliver book club stuff for someone else in the building, but no – other items get mailed just fine and the Sims can use the box just fine.  Although I now have nraas mods installed, this was happening long before I added them.  Ideas?

2)  In the building I’m playing this week, I keep finding two Mixologists outside my door in the elevator lobby (on the mmm-teenth floor), stomping their feet and swearing that something (I assume my apartment door) is blocking their way.  For hours and hours.  I tried having my Sim deal with them, but while it was an option to greet and talk with them, I was not given the choice to invite them in or tell them to go away.  I was afraid they were stuck the first time I found them and didn’t want them to die so reset them and it did send them away.  But then, a few days later, they were back and frustrated/stomping again…  I left them there that time and after about 24 Sim hours, they finally went home on their own...  Only to return again.  I do have a professional bar in my penthouse, but it’s a private residence and there are no stalker-mixologists at any of my other houses that have them.  I’m pretty sure my Sims haven’t called for them – and even if they did do that when my back was turned, wouldn’t they come in and/or have a “dismiss” option?  And I checked to make absolutely sure that there wasn’t a “public room” marker in the interior room in which the bar resides, and there wasn’t that I could see.  How do I stop them from stalking me and blocking up my tiny floor lobby?

On the assumption that these will turn out to be bugs, I am posting in this forum - move if you think there is a better place.

I  don't know about the mixologists, but I've had books left at my apartment before, although not with the regularity you reported.  Maybe you just got lucky?  And none of mine have been skill books either.

It's good to know I'm not the only one.  It seems harmless and is probably just some sort of bug, but what an odd thing to go wonky...  I can't even imagine what the connection is for them to have programmed it wrong in the first place (if it *is* a bug).  Maybe I should stakeout the front door for a few days and see how and who is leaving them and it might tell me something.  I may try that.

I've been the recipent of free books as well.  And I've actually caught a sim dropping one off.  She was waiting for the elevator while reading the book.  When the door opened she just dropped the book and went in.  I think that is a bit of a bug, but hardly a game killer.

Ah, well that seems simple enough!  Yes, probably some bug where they are programmed to put a book away instead of returning it to their personal inventory.  Then, when they try, there is no bookshelf to return it to!  That would explain the frequency variation as well - Elevator-waiting Sims will all have different motivation levels to whip out a book and read to kill time.  I must have had quite the bibliofile neighbor at that last building!

Hmm...  Maybe I'll put a bookcase and a chair by my front door and see what happens.  It might keep my plaza a little tidier if they would put them away instead of tossing them around.

As far as the mixologists - is there another door in your elevator lobby? Often the NPC's "live" in the other apartments that don't actually exist...so they  may be trying to go to the other door, and find it inaccessible for some reason.

That's a really good idea!  I'll check - I believe there is one door area, but it may be comprised of two single doors next to each other (I didn't build the house, so this detail isn't burned in my brain).
