One way stairs?
« on: August 01, 2012, 04:08:17 AM »
Lately I'm having trouble with stairs in my homes. Sims can go down them but not up. Rather they can go up them but when they get to the top their action in the queue gets cancelled and they turn around and walk right back down.

They don't stop and stomp their feet and complain as if something is in the way they just turn around and walk right back down like the stairs are some warp or fold in space-time sending them right back where they started. Basements become death traps this way.

Any one else ever experience this?

I've tried moving everything. deleting walls and doors and lights and anything at the top of the stairs that might be in the way and even replacing the stairs. And it happens in pretty much any home on any lot.

I'm thinking maybe something to do with a recently installed mod? I've just installed a bunch of Nrass mods. Every post I'v read says they're reliable and don't cause problems but I don't know what else to think so I'm hoping some one else here has had the problem and figured out the cause.

There isn't another set of stairs above them by any chance, because if you have stacked stairs (a set of stairs directly above another set) they need to be the same orientation as the original footprint of the block or you have much the same problem that you are having only it happens in both directions, up and down.

It's interesting that this was never a problem until recently. I've seen people say that about stacked stairs and the orientation of the lot before but I was never able to reproduce the problem they spoke of before and I use stacked stairs in almost all of my builds. It is,after all, how they are often placed in real buildings. It just makes sense to stack them. These aren't even new builds I've been having problems with but a few of my oldest favorite residential builds that I've used many times but some how recently they stopped working.

Anyway, I found a solution mentioned on another site that was much easier then redesigning the whole floor plan in a way to rotate them 90 degrees. I just slid the upper stairway back by one square so they aren't directly over top of each other. This only eats up one square of floor space so it was relatively easy to do and now they work fine.

Yet another bug on the long list of bugs EA will never fix I guess.
