Video Program Message?
« on: July 29, 2012, 10:03:28 PM »
Oh boy, this again. My game was going all fine and dandy but yet again, this issue is coming up. So this time I actually went and uninstalled Origin then reinstalled it to make sure it was up to date.... But the problem has yet to be fixed.

Does anybody know what this means? Because my computer (HP Pavilion g6) does great with games... I've checked the specs, and I know other people have this laptop as well so I doubt that my video card is the issue as it has worked flawlessly in the past. My worst fear is I would have to buy a new base game (NO!). Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Urgh, my picture didn't work. The message says (though you cant see it) in the error box:

Unable to start game

Device0 cannot run this title.
No supported video graphics card detected. Please check your system hardware.

I fixed your picture for you Cathair.  I am unable to help you but I will say that I was able to fix the image by completing the address.  For more information you can PM me and we can work it out.  I hope that with the image showing someone will be able to assist you with this issue.

A good question might be: What is your graphics card?

Edit: I just found this over at EA Help Center here

Quote
UNABLE TO START GAME. DEVICE 0 CANNOT RUN THIS TITLE.'
MESSAGE IN THE SIMS 3

UPDATED:  6/28/2011
The most likely reason why you are receiving the 'Device 0 cannot run this title' error message is because your system, or some aspect of it, does not meet the Minimum System Requirements to run The Sims 3.
If you have checked your Minimum System Requirements against a list that is not supported by EA (such as the Can You Run it website), please verify that you can run The Sims 3 by using the System Requirements Checker found on this site.
If you do meet Minimum System Requirements, but you are still receiving this message, your drivers may be out of date (and thus the game is having trouble recognizing your Video or Sound card as able to run the game). Click here for instructions on how to update your drivers.
If you continue on receiving this error message, even after verifying your system meets Minimum System Requirements and your drivers are up-to-date, try running the game in Windowed Mode.
How can I run the game in Windowed Mode, if I can't access the game in the first place?
You can edit the 'Options.ini' file to force the game to start in Windowed Mode. Users have reported success in running the game and getting rid of the error message after forcing their game to run in Windowed Mode by following the instructions below:
Click on the 'Start' button on your Windows Taskbar.
Select 'My Documents.'
Double-click on the 'Electronic Arts' folder.
Open 'The Sims 3' folder.
Right-click on the 'Options.ini' file and select 'Open With...'
Choose to open the file in 'Notepad.'
Press the 'Ctrl' and 'F' key at the same time to bring up the 'Find' panel.
Type in the following line (without the quotes): 'fullscreen = 1.'
This line should be the 8th option from the top, above 'simquality'
Change the number 1 to a number 0.
The line should now read: 'fullscreen = 0.'
Your game should now start in Windowed Mode.

You... I can't even... Thank you. So very much. I can barely put into words how much I'm grateful of you for taking your time to look up an answer to my problem. I looked on the website for answers and tried countless things and I never found that... And I'm very glad you did! I'm still wary to update my drivers and do not want to do something that fancy without advice from somebody with more technological experience, but otherwise thank you so much! It works... for now! :)
