Can't place cars?
« on: July 09, 2012, 01:38:48 AM »
For some reason, I cannot place cars in the garage that I have built. I was able to place them as soon as my family moved in, but as soon as I sent my Sims somewhere, the cars ended up in their family inventory and I was unable to replace them in the garage - when I tried it showed the circle with an 'X' through it, signifying that I cannot place them there.

I went into Build Mode, and the car parking spaces in the garage had mysteriously disappeared, and now I cannot replace them without receiving the "Can't intersect other objects" message. There are no other objects in there! I deleted the walls, I removed the lights - I basically deleted everything in the general vicinity that could possibly get in the way and still no luck. What's going on here?

Has one of the sims dropped something on the floor of the garage?  How big is the garage ie. how many squares long and wide? Did you use the move objects cheat at all while you were building?

My Sims have not dropped anything in the garage. The garage is only 8x11. Like I said previously, I even tried to remove literally everything from the vicinity of the garage, including the walls, lights, etc. and it still would not allow me to place the parking spots where the garage was supposed to be.

I just tried to place some stuff again, and the problem seems to be the middle of the garage. I can place small objects that only take up 1 or 2 square around the edges of the garage, but if i try to place that same item even a few squares towards the center, it will not let me.

It's as if that spot has randomly decided to become useless. :/

You didn't answer if you used move objects at all while building? Is the floor level? Is there another level of the house above it?
If you can get a screenshot that might help.

Sorry,

Didn't use moveobjects, the floor is level - there is a level above it, however. I will try to get a screenshot on here in a little while.

Ok, problem solved.

I'm still not sure how this happened, but apparently the parking spaces that I had originally placed in the garage became invisible and unusable as soon as my Sims drove their cars. I discovered this when I dragged the sledgehammer tool across my garage and then clicked the undo button. When I clicked 'undo,' the parking spaces magically reappeared. Pretty strange, but I am just glad that it's all better now, lol.

Thanks for the quick responses, Twinmum!

Glad you sorted it out. I've had things become invisible no one or two occasions. It's one of those things that are really hard to troubleshoot.
