Unfinished Walls/Floors Moodlet
« on: July 04, 2012, 07:00:57 PM »
I decided to work on the ice furniture for my Glass House of Water project.  I plopped the house down in my new world, and filled it with 8 sims who are going to get awfully good at sculpting.  Right away I noticed they were getting the negative "Unfinished walls/floor" moodlet.  I should point out that the actual pool portions of the house are outside.    I did test it before I saved it to my library,  and I'm pretty certain my test sim didn't get the moodlet.

I did some googling, and it seems there might be an issue with using the pool wall/floor inside.  I had been using them make the whole thing look like a giant pool, but I decided to replace the pool tile with paint and carpeting.  This did get rid of the moodlet.  I tried replacing the pool tile, and the moodlet came back.  I went back to the replacements, and everything was fine.

So, now my house is fully carpetted and painted, even the actual pool portions because I wanted everything to match (yep, this house has the super luxurous carpetted pool feature all sims appreciate so much).  But I would rather have the  original pool tile I used.  Has anyone encountered this issue, or have any ideas on how to resolve it and keep the pool tile?

Recolor the carpet to use the pool tile pattern? You should be able to do this in Create A Style - either the pattern will be available, or you should be able to build a pool, edit it in Create A Style, and drag the pattern onto your carpet.

Interesting idea.  I'll give that a shot, thanks.

Edit: Ok, I've given this some thought, and I have some reservations.  I don't currently have the create a style tool and haven't ever used it.  Would using it this way, even to create a pattern EA already put in the game, count as a custom pattern?  I'm staying away from them, and going as close to Vanilla (flavored with World Adventures) as I can.

The house doesn't look too bad the way I have it painted/carpetted now, so it isn't that big of a deal.

Not "Create A Pattern" - "Create A Style". You definitely have it - in Build or Buy mode, there's a little button on the controls (near the hand and the sledgehammer) that looks like a paint palette with a brush. That lets you change, say, your sim's shirt from stripes to plaid, or your floor tiles from wood to paisley. There are a lot of preloaded patterns, and it's pretty simple to copy a pattern from one item to another (so your whole dining set can match - or so that the "carpet" in your pool can still look like a pool tile).

Carl just added a tutorial on Create A Style to the guide, here.

Ah, that thing.  Sorry for the confusion, I should have known what you meant, I use it very frequently.  Now that I think of on it, I might have very welll used the eyedropper  tool to pick up the pattern from the pool and used it instead of going to the tile section of create a style.  I'll certainly give you idea a try and report back.

Reporting back.

Putting up the "pool wall" under tiles gave the unfinished moodlet.   I found a wallpaper that I thought when recolored might approximate it , "wall with dado, border, chair rail, and baseboard moulding".  I did the whole house, and then recolored into tile.  The floor I did as "simple floor", recolored to match the walls.  Then, caught up with the whole event, I recolored the wooden furniture and bathroom fixtures to compliment the new decor.  Here's what I came with, when all is said and done:

I like it better now, and the moodlet is gone.  Thanks for the suggestion!

Thank you.  I'll be uploading it to the swap shop as soon as my squad of sculptors learn now to make things like a dining table and barstools for my ice furniture motif.  Might be a while, though.

...also, that's kind of odd that the "pool wall" pattern under Tile gave you the "Unfinished" moodlet. I did a whole house using recolors of that pattern without a problem.

I thought it was odd too, perhaps it's a glitch in my game or something.  I've had the problem before when sims in a swimming pool got the moodlet, even though they were outside and it shouldn't have been a problem.  It's not exactly a game breaker or anything, but I didn't want to upload a house that even had a chance of being broken.

There's a premade house made up completely of the pool tile wall covering but recolored, in every single room. made me laugh. Didn't have an unfinished moodlet though.
