HELS question
« on: September 06, 2010, 05:59:58 PM »
Do they have to be installed in order? I just bought HELS today and I already have Ambitions so do I have to uninstall it , install HELS than reinstall Ambitions?

It wasn't a problem in Sims 2 but I don't know about S3.  Hopefully someone who does know will post soon.

I never got into 1 or 2 so I'm clueless about this stuff! That's why I wanted to ask, I don't want to mess up my game!

Personally, I've always installed all expansions in order of release. You can't go wrong doing it that way. But, I've heard some on the forum say it does not matter. I don't know how ironclad that is, so you might as well go on the assumption that you have to to keep things as smooth as possible.

With the original Sims, it wouldn't let you install if you tried to do it out of order.  Sims 2 you could download in any order but you would have to play with the newest game.  It would tell you which disc to play with if you tried to play with a different one.  So I am assuming it would not matter for the Sims3.  If it does, I assume again, that it would let you know before it installs to your computer since the first Sims did (and that game is a dinosaur now, lol).

I don't know, I don't think stuff packs matter. I installed it after I installed WA and Ambitions, and it was fine.

Yea, I backed everything up just in case, installed it and held my breath, worked like a charm! I love the vibrating bed lol.

I'm glad it's working Esther1981!

It's always a good idea to back stuff up before installing even a Stuff Pack like High-End Loft, just in the event something goes wrong.

While I've never heard EA say "officially" there's a specific order you HAVE to install the specific Expansions / Stuff Packs in, technical support (when they advise you to remove and then re-install the game) instructs you to install the Expansions and Stuff Packs you have in the order they were released.

When I pressed them on why it mattered, tech support didn't elucidate / got mum. So as Metro Man said, it's probably the very "safest" way to install, but (theoretically) it shouldn't matter.

I'm pretty sure the issue is how EA distributes patches / updates. Those are delivered in chronological order to support the new features or requirements of new Expansions or (with Fast Lane) new in-game behaviors.

I'm glad it's working for you, and since it's working, I'd not expect any problems. Glad you are enjoying your "High-End" stuff!  :)
