Sim Won't Stop Reading, Needs Aren't Decreasing

My problem is a little different from the typical "stuck" Sim. My sim is in his vacation home in France and is sitting and reading a book. The book isn't there. He just keeps making a turning pages motion. Clicking on the action to cancel it does nothing. The big red X appears over the action box, but he keeps reading anyway. His skill isn't improving and his needs appear not to decrease at all even though time is passing.

I've done the resetSim * cheat, but nothing happens. What's happening here?

Have you saved as a new file name, shut down the game, restarted your computer and started the game back up?

Yes. I just shut down the game, restarted my computer and reloaded the game. He's still sitting there miming reading.

Also, his face isn't there on the square in the lower left corner. It's just solid green with the highlighted border around it. Does this help or mean anything?

I'm afraid you've been hit with a well known traveling bug.    Do you have a save from before he was in France?

That stinks. I have saved the game many times, but is there a way to revert to a previous save?

Also, what would happen if I sped up time until his trip ends? Would he be normal and responsive again once he goes back home?

Update: I set the speed to the fastest setting and just waited for the vacation to end. Once the game reloaded in my sim's home town, everything was back to normal.

I wonder what happens if I go back to France?

Just be sure to save right before you leave for any other trips.  You got lucky this time.  May not happen next time.
