Opening the game is very slow
« on: June 01, 2012, 01:09:50 PM »
Ok, not sure if this is the right spot, I think it is. So anyways, I never use the launcher to open the game, I go through the program files to bypass it. Since I started doing that, I always send a shortcut of the EP/SP to my desktop so it's easier. It's not a new problem, but I'm looking for a solution once and for all. Everytime I click the icon to start the game, the cursor spins like it's trying to open it, but it takes about 2-3 minutes then my screen goes black for 2-3 minutes before the plumbbob's spin around the EA sign. Factory resets don't help. Last time I did a full uninstall-reinstall was right before Generations. Do not use mods, and do not want a mod solution please. It started right after Pets was installed, and I thought a new graphic card would solve it, but even though my animals are now gorgeous, the loading issue is still there and becoming worse. Only CC I have is store content, but even a brand new folder with no content does it. Any mod-free suggestions?

Maybe it is time to do a reinstall! I did it after Showtime and have no problems. At first I was too lazy lol! But the game kept freezing and after the reinstall it is as good as new. I don't use any mods. ;)

Is anything else running slow, or just the Sims?

Ugh, that's what I'm trying to avoid Louise. Lol I know about the lazy thing, I'm being lazy about it, but considering how many of them there is now, it takes forever to do that. If no one else has any more suggestions though, I might bite the bullet and do that.

Just the sims. Other games and things open instantly when I click the icon.

It probably couldn't hurt to defrag your hard drive.

Does it work better if you go through the launcher?

Ok, I'll set the defrag before I go to bed, but it's got an auto one and it says the last one was 5/30/2012 at 7:21 am. I'll run it again though, hopefully it will help.

I don't know, I haven't tried. The only time I open the launcher is when I have to patch up or buy something.

I say try the launcher, Esther.  Otherwise, I'd say a re-install, too.  My last one took exactly an hour to install all the disks, and I have all EPs and SPs.

I did the defrag, and I'm not sure if it helped, I just got up so I will try it. I'll also try the launcher. I don't use the disc's though, I go through the control panel to uninstall them then use Origin to reinstall.

EDIT: I just clicked the icon, and it still took awhile. then I quit that one and opened the launcher and oddly enough it did seem to be a little faster. Yesterday one of my computer genius friends was over, and I asked him the same question, and he said it was probably my processor.  :'( So I have him looking for a new motherboard with a bigger processor. I don't know if a complete uninstall, reinstall would even be worth it, but I guess I could try it. ???
