Can't go up stairs
« on: May 24, 2012, 09:42:11 AM »
I'm not sure if this goes here or in General; if there, sorry for putting it in the wrong place.

I had my couple move into a new house, the one they were in was getting quite cramped.

I like the house, and I only made a few changes, mainly in coloring of walls and such.  But I did change the solarium into a family room and take the family room upstairs and make it into a sitting room for the parents.
I did tear down the greenhouse to make room for a pool, but it wasn't attached to the house.

I closed in a porch area to make a room larger and added a door. Took out the flower box and pulled out the room there to make it larger, for Isabol's bedroom.   But that is at the opposite end of the house from where the stairs are.

Everything seemed fine, the kids aged up child to teen and life was good.  Then all of a sudden the parents and maid couldn't go up the stairs.  They stand there and wave their arms, shouting but no climbing stairs.

Could it be related to the slight remodeling?  I did more extensive work on a home in Sunset and there has been no problems.

I went back to where I had just closed in the porch area, no other changes and still can't go up the stairs.

Do I need to go further back, before I moved them in and then move them back in and do no changes except in the color of walls and moving furniture around?

Were the parents and maid able to use the stairs before the children aged up? If so, the stairs are probably glitched - try demolishing and replacing them.

ETA: Or, did you by any chance place birthday party decorations near the stairs, or change the roof over them? Before demolishing the stairs, try moving objects that are near the top and bottom of the staircase, and make sure the roof at the top of the staircase is tall enough for a sim.

Yes, they were able to climb the stairs before the age up.  I did't have a party for them, and the only changes was moving tables, chairs and such from around them.  Other changes had been to take out the flower "box" in front of the bedroom so I could pull the wall out to make the room larger.  Enclose part of a porch area to make a room larger and use it for a study.
I will move more stuff,  everything that is near them and if they still can't climb them, then I will remove the stairs and add new ones.

When I first had the problem I opened up a previous save, from when I had just moved them in and the twins hadn't aged up, and couldn't go up stairs then, when I had before.

I really like this house, and my three gnomes are having fun exploring; I am finding them all over the house,  :D

Are you talking about straight stairs or spiral stairs? Have you tried just deleting the stairs and replacing them with a new set?
Have you read the Forum Rules?

They were straight stairs.  I finally gave up, nothing seemed to work, a glitch I guess in the house?

I moved my family into a house next door that I had liked the floor plan better, and not just because it was one level, but the layout was more to my liking.  It has a pool, but no yard which was the deciding factor in choosing the other house.  I bought it then I edited and moved the house to a bigger lot and now have room to add an exercise room and play area.
The first night a thief tried to break in and the wild horses must not have liked him as they had him pened on the porch until the police showed up.   ;D
