The baby had a sexchange!
« on: May 10, 2012, 07:22:28 AM »

Background:
I was playing with a family I hadn't used in a couple of weeks and forgot I gave them both fertility treatments.
I thought, give them a kid, it turned out to be triplets. At the hospital it said I had three girls and I named them accordingly - only when I got home again one of them had turned into a boy :o A boy now named Marie. Well, it gives me a pretty good story for him but it was really strange.

I just wanted to know if anyone else experienced this? Is it a glitch or just something strange. (and yes, it really said it was a girl). It never happened to me before and I've been playing the Sims since Sims 2 came out.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I got to page 10 in misc. help and gave up looking.

I never had that happen. Kind of funny though. If I remeber correctly, the actor John Wayne's real name was Marian.

...and it's not unheard of for French men to have "Marie" as a middle name, or Spanish-speaking men to have Maria. Not common by any stretch, but not unheard of, and pretty much never the first name. If it bothers you you'll eventually be able to change the child's name at City Hall, but that might not be until Child stage. I'm not sure whether you can change names through testingcheats...

I don't think I've ever seen or heard of a dialog box for the wrong gender - but I recall hearing that a patch from earlier this year made it more likely (or even possible at all) to get mixed-gender multiples without having to go through the see-the-doctor-then-eat-the-other-fruit process. I wonder if you found some glitch in that.

It's not just the French. In my family the name for everyone who completed their Catholic confirmation, was Mary. My two brothers were NOT pleased.

It's either a glitch or player error.  Either way, you can change the baby's name at City Hall during normal business hours.  One of the parents can do it.

He'll just have to live with it I guess. As cathyknits said it is a quite common French name after all - maybe he'll move to France. I'm not so much bothered by the name mishap. I was more curious to know if someone else had a similar experience...

At least its not in real life, can you image him at school?  I remember a kid at school who's name was Gene, which is pronounced the same as Jean.  He was teased a lot for having a girl name.
At least he wasn't name Sue (just aged myself, and I don't even like country music).

In France, Michel (a boy's name) and Michele (a girls name) are pronouced the same way. My brother-in-law's name was Jean, which in English is John. In French, a girl would be Jeane. The "e" denotes female. Different cultures.
