How to get kids and pets home
« on: May 11, 2012, 08:51:57 PM »
I know it is probably very simple and I am just overlooking it (and will feel like an idiot for not seeing it) , but I can't figure out how to get the kids and pets home AFTER the trip.
I have no problem in clicking say the park and chose who is to go; Lucas and Indigo for example.  But when it was time to go home, I couldn't find how to click on take the kids home.  Mom took the car, and dad had to get a cab and he left the kids, who rode home on their bikes.
Same with the pet dog; puppy is easy, pick up and then click to go home.
But what about an adult dog? I started a new family in Appaloosa Plains today, and she has an adult dog.   When I sent them to the park no problem, but when it was time to go home, she took off and left the dog there.  He had to run all the way home.

So, what step am I missing in getting them to all go home tegether?

My Sims always have cats, but I have the same issues.  Most recently, four cats went to the park with two sisters.  When I sent the sisters home, two of the cats automatically went with them and two cats stayed behind.  I have no idea why those two stayed behind.  I had the two sisters go back to the park, pick them up, then go back home.  I think they should just go when the Sims leave, but it doesn't always happen for some reason.

Were they on the same lot? If so you should have the "Go here with ..." option available. That and "Go here with group" always work for me. It's just a matter of not letting someone run off on their own first. I'm not impressed either when I tell a Sim to take the kitty to the park for some fun, and s/he then decides to return home alone in an unsupervised moment.

It could also be possible that someone stays behind because the car is full?

So you can not simply click Sim go here just like you've did with your other sims? That's I believe I've got them home most of the time.

That has happened to me too, so now if a few  people go, lets say out to eat or to a club, I go to map view and zoom in on their house.  I click on their yard and click on "go here with...."  I choose all of the family in the list and they all go home together.  Not sure if it works on pets or not, I never really paid attention to that.  Another one too, if a sim is at home and they want everyone home, there is an option on cell phone to "call everyone home".  I did that once and even a sim that was at work came home, oops. :)
Is it true that cannibals don't eat clowns because they taste funny?

I am not sure where to ask this but this seems sort of the right place.  I am having trouble keeping my wild unicorn home. She just keeps going back to the park where she used to hang out.  All of a sudden we can't find her and there she is back at the park.  Is that normal and how do I keep her home?  I hate locking her up in the pen thing, not even sure if I can do that actually.

Let me clarify.  I have my dog and want to take her to the park.  On map view I click on the dog park.  It asks go with who.  Simple, I chose my pet.  But, when I want to go home, I am stuck on how to get my pet, or in SV my kids, to go home with me.  I go to the map view, click on my home and it shows go home.  But no "go home with" option.  I clicked on my dog and again, the go home comes up, but no go home with option.

When my sim family took the kids to the park, no problem, go with and chose kids.  When we went to leave, there was no option to take them home.  When they were  a baby or toddler I could pick them up and go home.  But with children, not possible.  They had to ride bikes home and one parent left the other and went home alone.  I had a car for them and there was just four in the family.
With my pet, I took a cab, so it was just the two of us. I didn't like leaving her then and I don't like the thought of leaving her again.  The dog lover in me is leaking I guess.  Our dogs at home are not just pets, they are members of our family.

I took the cab and went home and clicked on her to go home and off she took, running to go home.  Surely there is a way to take the pet (or kids)  home when you leave.

If it's a smaller dog maybe you could pick the pet up before you click go home? I don't know if that'd work. I haven't played around with pets in a while.

I added a ghost dog to a family recently, because a stray died on my lot and my sim had the resurrect opportunity. I've never done that opportunity before and wanted to see what would happen so I took the stray's ashes to the science place. After ghost dog is added to family, my sim goes home, leaving the dog at the science facility, and my sim lives on the other side of town, so the dog goes off running, and I go play my sims household, and it's hours later and the dog is like in the red, so I click on her, and click for her to sleep where she is. I go back to my house decide my family doesn't really need another pet, we don't have the space and my sim wants to get pregnant again, and adding the ghost dog to my house didn't count as another stray being adopted for my other sim, so I just went back to the ghost dog and clicked it's grave letting it return to the netherworld. It never got to see the inside of my sims home. I think it's ridiculous that the dog has to run from wherever to get home. I wish it just went home with the sims.

If I want the Pet to go in the Motive Mobile on the way home I have the Sim click just off the home lot so that I get the 'Go Here With' and then select the pet and then they drive in the car practically home and then I guide them both those extra few metres back home.

The "Go Here With" option is good in the situation where the pet or child stays behind.  I forget about it when I'm playing and forgot about it when I posted here.  But it should work.  While both Sim and pet/child are still out, go to your home lot and click on the ground somewhere and select "Go Here With" and you should be able to get the pet/child home with the Sim.

Thanks !

I HATED leaving them behind; especially the dog.  I don't place dogs before kids, but at least a kid, in real life, could ask for help, a dog can't.  They are dependent on the owner to provide for them.

She is a med/large size dog, pharoah hound, I've alway wanted one; they are beautiful animals.

Anyhow, thanks for the help, now I can get the kids and pets home safe and sound.
