Weird, Annoying Background Music

Having installed Showtime and subsequently tiring of the professions in the EP, I started a new world and returned to my old reliables, gardening, nectaring, and horse ranching. While gardening and making nectar (after both were at level-10) I noticed weird background music had begun. At first I thought an asteroid was incoming, but it didn't happen and the music continued for a couple of real life days had passed. The music sounded like a haunted/Sci-Fi theme with predominent bongo drums -- VERY annoying.

Today, while running my horse over the advanced jumping course a different theme began -- it sounds like a slightly out of tune caliope (bad carnival music). It's really quite irritating and though I've tried everything in Options nothing makes it go away except shutting down the sound on my PC. Coincidentally, there are no gnomes on my lot and I've checked to ensure none of my stereos is playing. Also, the music appears to eminate directly from my sim, as it gets loudest when I scroll onto her and diminishes as I scroll away. No positive or negative moodlet appears to result from the music.

Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon? Has anyone an idea about how to make it stop?

Sorry, I know compared to some other issues raised here this is rather esoteric.

I have this happen a lot. If it gets too irritating I close my game to Main Menu, then open it again. That usually fixes it.

Thank you, Jude! I'm glad it's not just me, which is to say maybe if enough of us complain about it to EA maybe they will put it on their VERY long list of things to fix in future patches.

Mary, it happen to all of us Next time it happen, look if there is a simfest in town. It triggers the sounds for me lol! Don't worry too much about it. I'm sure EA will fix it in the next patch.

Sometimes the annoying music/chiming happens when the icecream truck stops by either the sim's home lot, or a lot that your sim is visiting. It used to annoy me quite a bit. But not so much anymore since I know what it is. The chiming also happens around midnight-1ish in the morning Not sure why though.

MrsFlynn ... this is definitely not associated with the icecream truck, which was no where nearby when the music started. It's also not associated with Symfests, as on both cases where it occurred it was near or after midnight sim time. The strange thing about it is the music comes directly from the sim. The second time it occurred she was doing advanced jumps on the back of a horse and I noticed that the volume changed proportional to her distance from my viewing point - it's as though she had a radio in her pocket. I used Judewright's suggestion of closing out to the Main Menu, which has so far solved the problem. This issue likely would not be a problem at all if the music weren't so bad -- it's like a developer added this as a practical joke for a colleague and it was never taken out before game launch.

I've been having music issues since installing Showtime too, except on my game I get the "Your Sim has just got a promotion in his profession!" music at random moments, when no one is getting promoted. Also, I have the weird feeling I am missing notifications, like someone got rejected for a date and the game didn't tell me. This is why I was wary about installing Showtime :/ I heard there were technical issues. I guess that mine technically aren't that bad, really. Just annoying and somewhat unsettling.

All music has messed up since Showtime. You get strange music for no apparent reason and at times, your singer is on stage with her mouth open and there's no music. Also I had one nightclub that originally was Pop and then when my sim went back it was Classical!
Hope they patch this up soon!
