Are my mods even working?
« on: April 29, 2012, 03:44:12 PM »
I have Twallan's Overwatch, ErrorTrap, and Saver but I'm not sure they are even working. I followed the instructions someone on here (can't remember who) provided for installing mods and they should be working. But I have never had a message reminding me to save (saver) and I went on sims today and my game is completely slow and not working but isn't Overwatch and ErrorTrap supposed to prevent this? Or is that just because I haven't played in a while?
If at first you don't succeed, call it version 1.0.

Do you get the little sign on your main menu that comes up telling you you have mods installed?

My mods are working but some reason I no longer get the notification on main menu. (I used to, but no longer).

But I have Overwatch and Errortrap and if they are working properly, you should get a note when you load a game and/or every sim day about "x amount of cars deleted". I get that car cleanup pop up every time I load the game, and occasionally I get other types of notifications (like stuck sims reset etc). If you never get any messages, I don't think they are installed correctly.
Error trap only shows any notifications if there has been an error, so it's just good if it doesn't, I guess. I rarely get anything.

Hmm, I never do get those messages so they must be installed wrongly. Does anyone have any simple instructions since I obviously can't follow the other ones.  :-[

I would delete everything but the resource.cfg file and start over using Jeana's instructions.   I actually never use the resource.cfg file she links to because I can never get it to work so I use the one at this link(instant download from MTS).

Go to twallan's wiki and download the newest possible version of the mods. Make sure that you are putting the package files you extract in a folder named Packages (Capital P with s) and that folder is in one named Mods (Capital M with s) under your Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 folder.  If you have any questions or concerns with the new install, don't hesitate to ask again until you get it right.

I highly recommend these directions at MTS: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Installing_Sims_3_Package_Files/Setup_and_Files

All you have to do is download the zip file and move it to Documents\The Sims 3  (same folder where your downloads, saved sims, etc are located). Once it's in Documents\The sims 3, right click the zip file and choose extract here. Voilą, instant mod folder set up.

Note to people who do not see the Mod Scripts Found window when they start their game: If you are using NoCD, you will not get this pop up.

Oh that's why it's gone, then! I have NoCD. :)

I can also suggest following the instructions @ Modthesims which Nonamena linked. The downloadable folder comes with "no intro" file, which is an easy way to know if the folder is correctly set up, also it's very convenient to have if you are like me and hate extra loading time.

That's great. I am glad that your mods are working now. Also, to add to what Nona has said about the Mod Scripts Found window, only script mods will show up in this window. So, say, if you are using tuning mods (like those that can be found at TFM's Asylum), don't panic if those don't show up in that window. If you've put them in the right location and have the correct patch version of the game, they will work.
