In Days Of Olde
« on: May 26, 2012, 08:07:11 PM »
When Knights were bold;

folk; from children playing on the village green, to the lowliest surf labouring in the fields, to revelers in the village tavern, to the king in his fabled castle; believed in witches and curses.

A story was told which has been immortalized in poetry and painting.

A beautiful maiden dwelt alone in an enchanted tower built on a small island in the river which ran through the village to the castle where a gentle and benevolant king lived with his noble retinue of knights.

The maiden believed she had been cursed and that if she looked out of the window or left her isolated tower the curse would come upon her.  So she sat, high in her tower with her back to the window gazing at the image of the castle and village reflected in her mirror.  Day and night she sat there weaving a tapastry of the scene below her, until one day a magnificent knight rode by on his way to the castle.....

It was a long, long time ago, the people are all gone now and the castle, village and tower lay deserted and unloved.

We live in a more prosaic age when curses no longer wield a power over us.  So, maybe there is a wealthy sim family out there somewhere with a romantic turn of mind, that would like to bring the mythcal tower, village and castle back to life.

Wow..... just... wow!

This must have taken ages to build. Have you seen the castle building stuff in the store? That would go so well with your castle..

Here's the link if you're interested... http://store.thesims3.com/setsProductListing.html?scategoryId=12062

Thank you Neashaleigh,

I'm so pleased you liked it.  :)

I don't use the store, ever, I simply have to watch my budget and extra items though they may be nice to have, are not essential to the game.  But thank you for the suggestion.  Perhaps, if someone downloads this they might appreciate the extra stuff and add it themselves.

Thank you loveSims

Its nice to have ones work appreciated. :)

Have you guessed what the back story is?  It's a real Medieval Legend and really has inspired poetry and painting.  (The painting is worth Millions and the Poet is one of the best known Romantics.

Please tell me. I haven't read that sort of stories since I was a kid. That was long ago lol! But you must consider to write a story, you are a good storyteller.

loveSims,

It's not a children's story, it's too tragic.  http://www.victorianweb.org/authors/tennyson/los1.html it's too long to quote here.  Its a really beautiful, though very sad poem.   I hope it moves you as it always does me when I read it.

Thank you ladybug53.  I really can't say how long it took.  I enjoyed doing it, so didn't take much note of the time and I did it over a couple of evenings alternating it with my competition entry.

Wow, great build! I really love the river going up the middle.

I've also been working on a castle, originally it was for the storybook contest but just couldn't keep it within budget. So once I've finished my new entry for that, I'll upload my castle. It's not nearly as grand as yours though!  :D

I've also been working on a castle

I look forward to seeing that.

Just for fun, I've been trying to build a smaller castle within the competition budget.  So far. a couple of nice shells, bit if I furnish they will be well over budget.  I think the problem is all the extra walls needed for the turrets and cranilations, and the cost of stone effect wall covering doesn't help.

Yup, that's what I found. I kept making it smaller and smaller and it got to the point where it wasn't a big old draughty castle but more of a cottage with huge turrets!

Now I'm not trying to keep it to a budget I can just go crazy.  ;D
