Travel plans canceled

My sim just tried to take a trip to Egypt. She got in her car and started to leave only for the action to cancel out before the travel screen came up. A message popped up that reads: "Due to unexpected circumstances your travel plans have been canceled. Your 1600 has been refunded"

I've never had this happen before in one of my games, what's the deal?

Hi,

Have you got Generations? Or, more importantly, have you sent any of your sims to boarding school? It seems like this problem is connected to a boarding school issue where the game thinks that your sim is supposed to be at a boarding school while he/she is at home. That is, according to this thread. I've never encountered this error before so I cannot be of any more help. I'm sorry.

This was it exactly. She came home from boarding school, aged up and everything seemed normal - she had all the usual adult Sim interactions except - she couldn't travel and when I tried to register her as self-employed the option at City Hall wouldn't come up (but oddly she could register as an architectural designer) Finally I moved her out of the house, then asked her to move back in and that seems to have taken care of it.

Okay folks, I've figured out a solution to this. I, too, was experiencing this problem at first. Here's what I did: Make a copy of your current sims, evict your current sims, place your back-up copy back into your home and it should work.
