How do you do it?
« on: April 20, 2012, 09:45:54 PM »
My Sim family just had twins. They are a handful! I had to change the age meter to short so they can age into a toddler in a day. I guess my question is: How do you take care of more than one baby? I can handle one easy, but two is hard!

Hi Superbad.

Your subject for this thread is a little vague.  Would you please modify the first post and change it to something more specific?  It helps our Forum stay organized and makes it easier to find things.

About your specific question, I've written a couple of articles for the Guide that may help you:

Practice. That's what helped me the most in the long run - try with one baby first, then when you've mastered that, go for 2, then maybe one day even 3 or more. It also helps to have more than one parent available to care for them.

Baby Boomers. Play a Baby Boomers challenge and soon enough, raising one, two or even three children is a cakewalk in comparison. I played Baby Boomers I after it closed, and didn't finish it, but I started appreciating twins more. I even try to force them on to my Sims now. ;D

Prioritize.  Don't worry so much about what your adult sims have to do aside from caring for the babies.  Take care of them before they start crying.  If your sim finishes breakfast, take a look at babies' needs before sending them off to do something else.  Top everyone off with bottles and cuddles until they're good for awhile.  The only thing you can't control is when the babies wet their diapers.  If necessary, send your sims to bed a little early knowing they'll be getting up at least once during the night, so they'll get enough sleep before and after attending to the little ones.  If you have two adults, keep one focused on the kids for a little while, allowing the other to attend to other things.  When the caregiver's needs get low, send in the refreshed adult to take a turn at babysitting.

The store has that swing which I've heard is nice if you can afford it, but I personally don't have it.  I also find the need-related lifetime rewards (meditative trance sleep, hardly hungry, steel bladder and dirt defiant) to be a big help in terms of reducing the time the adults need to spend on themselves.
