Just have fun! We all learned from playing the sims; and, what is success anyways?! There's no competition when you play for joy! I've deleted many games because I wanted to do something else or had an idea for another scenario. Everyone plays the game for their enjoyment and you do as you please.
I reaaly suggest, since you many questions to read the wonderful information provided on the guide. I was a reader before joining and learned a lot just from reading the tutorials written by other simmers! Happy simming!!!!

Exactly what MoMoll said, just have fun! You will learn so naturally and get used to the controls. The guide is really, really useful as a referral, you should use it!

Oh, and try not to use cheats, once you start you can't stop!

Good luck!

Depends entirely on what you define as success...

I would do excactly what she said.  About the cheats.  You need to have fun to!  I don't recomend making a legacy unless your just doing it for fun.  It is true that it's hard to stop once you start using cheats.  I almost always end up using the make needs static cheat and the motherlode cheat! :-[ :(

I'm not bad with the Motherload, I can generally control myself. Its the Testing Cheats I can't help myself with. I was addicted in TS2, and I decided not to use them in TS3, that didn't last long... :(

Don't feel bad. That resolve didn't last long with me either. My problem is I don't like to lose the moodlets because I want the meter to stay at the top.

Same! I'm such a perfectionist with my game. I go nuts if they have yellow backgrounds, especially if they're off to work or school. I'll get them up at 5am just to make them tidy the house, eat a full meal and take a shower.

Same here, too. I'm fanatical about keeping my sims in the absolute green. I haven't used cheats yet and I guess I'd better not start. I play on a Mac, too. The only thing different that I can see (from PC) is the way the back up files are named or stored. Not a problem, just something I noticed when reading advice about back up files.

I've not used cheats since starting to play sims3 and I love it that way :) I don't think it's too hard to make money, I got my first sim to be a rock star and he very quickly reached max level, then when I had the money I invest it in the cafe or shop or bookstore etc

Yes, money is seldom a problem, at least at the level I play at (newbie). People get so creative with their sims. I can see myself one day learning how to do cheats, maybe when I try to get creative with a crazy challenge. I'm OCD as it seems many of us are, so if I do start with the cheats, who knows what could happen :)
