Can earthquakes happen in The Sims?

I heard that one of the expansion packs allows earthquakes to happen. Is that true?
The outside is quiet, but the inside is on full blast.

It's Ambitions. A Firefighter will occasionally need to respond to Earthquakes.

Ambitions has that feature.

You have to be working in the fire department to unlock it. One won't happen to a sim not in the career all of a sudden, only firemen. Then they'll have to clean up the after effects.

When it happens, do you only get a notice that an earthquake has happened or do you get to see it (screen shaking or whatever the effect is)?

Screen shaking, rumbling noise, and a notice popup.

I never knew this! This is awesome! Will it always be guaranteed to happen in the Firefighter career? Like, at least once during the whole career or is it very rare like meteors?

It's only happened to me once, my sim firefighter was level 10. He just got in from work and the house shaked. He was them called back to work. All the sinks/showers/baths broke and the house became dirty. (counters)

Way back in my Legacy The Millhams, I had a firefighter. The first time my screen started shaking it scared the ever livin' daylights outta me. I think I had to respond to three earthquakes. I'm not sure if it's guaranteed to happen though.

I think it is just a random occurrence. Although every time I have player a firefighter it has happened at least once sometimes twice. But I am pretty sure you have to be so far into the career first although I am not sure how far that is. I have never had them happen in the first few levels of the career maybe not till after level 10 that I can't be sure of. Maybe someone has more info on that.

Only had it happen once in all the times I played a firefighter. Mostly I only got big fires with too many sims for one firefighter to rescue.

When my sim's house was on fire, she had to put it out because the firefighter took too long to respond! She ended up dying because I didn't notice she was burning on her back while putting out a fire in front of her.

If you're willing to use cheats to see it, testingcheatsenabled will let you trigger an earthquake. I think you need to be level nine or ten of the firefighter, and shift-click any lot in town, select 'spawn job', and then you'll be able to trigger an earthquake. It'll then set off a chain of three emergencies, where you'll have to put out the fire, rescue the trapped sims from under the rubble and fix a gas leak from the cooker.

I'd guess it's probably about as likely as any other career job to spawn at that level.
