Extra contents for Base Game?

I only have base game, but why can I choose the 'Above Reproach' lifetime reward?  Shouldn't it be a feature of Genrations?  By the way, why can I form groups and ask my spouse on date?  Don't this feature comes from Late Night?  Just few questions, I don't mind have them!

You must be Patched up. Dates are a feature of either LN or GEN, and they were also introduced in Patch 1.26 (I think).

What happens is that some features of an expansion pack are added to the base game through the updates you download.  It may be something that came out with Generations, for example, but the patch at that time included some of the features for any Sims 3 game.

Yes I was a bit surprised when I got sims 3 for pc, as on console most of the hairstyles and costumes from the store are on there and some expansion pack features are on there too.
