Advice on LTW “Possession is Nine Tenth of the Law”
« on: April 04, 2011, 12:20:24 PM »
Can anyone please give me advice on the LTW “Possession is Nine Tenth of the Law”?  Basically I am creating and documenting a story (on Wordpress) of a Sim who is a thief and I don’t really know anything about how a Sim can be a thief.  E.g. do they sneak? Can they pick locks?  Do you need to be part of the Criminal career to enable these things etc…..

I know there is a section on this site that covers the LTW but i am not really intrested in achieving the actual wish - i just want to know how a sim carries out its thieving ways - what interactions and options are there for me to document.

Any advice and insight into what the sim can do would be much appreciated.  Plus any good MODs or CC to go with this…..

Thank you

First of all, you won't get any CC or mod links on this forum. The Forum Rules clearly say that the forum discourages any use of that type of content, because it can harm your game. Here's a link to the rules.
On the question: I would not recommend pursuing that lifetime wish for any of your sims. It is VERY hard. You have to possess 50,000$ worth items which is a challenge indeed. In Sunset Valley, at least. I chose this wish for my Dynasty founder (silly me), and the worst thing is that you can't sell the items you steal, otherwise your meter will go down. Like you steal Agnes Crumplebottom's car, sell it, and your meter till 50,000$ is still at 0$.
Kleptomaniac trait is a must for Sims to have this LTW. Only thieves (Criminal career, Thief branch), their descendants, and private investigators (after a certain career level) can sneak as far as I know. And only PIs can pick locks, I think.
Nothing really special but being able to steal 3 items each night.

Good luck with your story, hope this helped.

Thank you for your reply. It looks like the Private Eye profession is much more intresting for sneaking and breaking into houses. Maybe i will pursue this instead!

Yes, it is. I played that in two of my games and enjoyed it very much. Very easy, especially if you pay attention to everyday jobs and stakeouts. Private Eye is a hidden trait your Sim and his/her descendants receive after he/she reaches level 7 in the profession. Be sure to give the Sim the Percpective trait from the start! It will trigger the appropriate LTW for the career. :)

Just an idea that I'm using now for a sim with this LTW that kind of happened by accident.  My kleptomaniac sim is actually an interior decorator.  She goes around and does her decorating bit, then hangs out after her last job of the day is done (the work day goes until 6pm) and steals something from her last client of the day.  I play on epic lifespan, so I'm in no rush and happily direct her to the bathroom to steal itty bitty things, but you could certainly alter that to your taste.  What I love about is that she chose the career.  It was the very first wish she had.  What's more, for story purposes, if I were to write one, it gives her a completely valid reason to be inside someone's house, even if they aren't home.  The bathroom bit adds even more because of course she would want privacy in the bathroom.  Of course, she wants to privacy to filch something, not use the toilet!   :D  The worst thing that ever happens is that her clients think she's a little inappropriate for using their bathroom.  It's the perfect alibi!

Welcome to the forum, starsarah. If you're interested, we've got a walkthrough for Possession is Nine Tenths of the Law on the guide right here. It'll give you some information about the wish and a few strategies you could try out. :)

I'm going to resurrect an old topic here.  I'm playing this LTW for the first time and I've noticed something odd.  My Sim stole Agnes' car and it's sitting in the Family Inventory.  If I try to place it on my lot, it doesn't appear.  The green grid shows up that tells me I've got a good spot and I click, but the car is invisible.  I can get it back into the Family Inventory by clicking the Back button.  Does anyone know if this is normal?  I wanted my Sim to be able to drive this car, but he can't with it like this.

I've had problems with the family inventory a lot.   Sometimes when I do that and then hit back it fixes itself and I'm able to put the car down and have it show up.  Sometimes it doesn't fix immediately until I grab it and then drop it back into family inventory and then it will appear when I go to place it on the lot.   Have you tried to do the second thing yet?

Yes, I have and it didn't work, either.  Sounds like maybe it's an inventory bug rather than something related to the LTW.

Edit:  Scratch that.  It's working fine now.  All the game needed was a restart.
