Adding newly made Sim to already active household.
« on: March 28, 2012, 05:28:33 PM »
Okay, I know this is a newbie question (but I'm a Sims newbie, so..  ;) ) and I'm sure it's been asked a bunch of times before, but searching around the forum I can't find what I'm looking for. So just move this or link me or yell at me to go somewhere else. Haha. But I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, though I'm sure it's an easy fix.

I just created a new Sim in Edit Town mode and I would like to add her to the already existing household of the game I am currently playing under. Make sense? So I click the new Sim and then click the house that is my current active household and then click Merge With and then nothing happened. So I clicked the house icon again and I got an error reading Unable to Merge Households. So if someone could just tell me what stupid thing I'm doing wrong? I would be very appreciative.  :D

Are you doing this in edit town? I've never had a problem merging households, so I'd like to know what you did in the beginning.

Yeah, I've never left Edit Town. Basically, let's call my current active household Smith. So I'm playing under Jane Smith right now. And in Edit Town in Jane's game I created a new Sim we'll call Joan. So after creating and saving Joan as her own household, I clicked on Joan's little picture frame and then clicked on Jane's house (I'm still under Jane's game) and then clicked Merge With. And nothing happened, so I clicked the green house icon again and got the pop-up error that households couldn't be merged.

Now, I gave them both the same last name. Could that be the problem?

Just one. And she's in a 6 room penthouse, so it can't be an issue of space right?

When you click on Joan's picture there should be a popup come up with a button that says Place Copy. Click this then click on Jane's house you'll then get another window popup with a Cancel option and a Merge option. Select Merge and that should merge them.

Perfect, thank you! I was wondering if the Copy option was what I was missing but I didn't want to do it just in case it wasn't.
