There's going to come a point to where you're going to have no choice but to digitally download games.  CD's and DVD's have been around for decades, and are well beyond their prime as far as electronics technology goes.  You can even buy games for digital download on most platforms these days.  Before the decade is out, I'd imagine that CD collections will become similar to vinyl collections:  you pull them out for nostalgia purposes.  And with EA's particular focus on this, it's likely that they'll be one of the first to phase them out.

I have two different games (one is an EA game, too) that I purchased as digital download and I've never had any problems.  The only reason I insist on buying hard copies of The Sims 3 games is because you occasionally have to uninstall and reinstall it.  It's more efficient to use the discs, and then download the last installment digitally so I don't have to use the disc.

The problems you've experienced with it are more likely the result of EA dropping the ball than it is a result of a flaw in digital media.

I had problems figuring out how to get the game installation code, since the email instructions from Origin were quite confusing. I expected the game itself or the code to show up in my purchase history on the Sims 3 site, since that's what the email claimed would happen, but the only things showing up in my purchase history were the extra objects included in the Katy Perry edition. I finally figured out that one of the codes in the four emails I received was longer than the others, with no dashes, just a string of 20 letters and numbers. I decided to try to enter that as an installation code for the game, and it worked. This was after I'd downloaded the game from the Origin shop, and it had proceeded to the point of installing and needing the code.

I never buy digital downloads of anything unless gamestop doesn't have the physical discs... I only use gamestop to buy games. Anyways if anyone remembers how around a year ago gamestop was using a different digital download system (not origin) and anyways that one always had problems with my credit card and it once took me 2 days to download WA (I passed on the disc when it came out) because the credit card couldn't get authorized and then there was a problem with the registration code. So to make a long story short I just go to the store on release day and buy the disc. hosfac, I fear the days you speak of...

Hmmm, I was told I would be emailed a response in 24 hours. It's been a day and a half now. Time to actually talk to someone. It really shouldn't be this difficult to receive a code that I should have gotten on release day.

When I try to unlock this venue all I got is a message that the code I've used is already in use.

I had to call EA and speak with a representative. He gave me my code that I failed to receive in any email. He was very helpful. :)

I always buy the discs too and from Gamestop as well.  Did you know you can pre-order from them in store, (not online), pay for it right then or put down a deposit and then just walk in and pick it up on release date?  It was very convenient for me to do it that way as I would have spent the birthday cash otherwise!  lol
What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!
