Invisible Sims in Sunset Valley
« on: April 09, 2011, 11:57:32 PM »
I know this subject isn't new as I have read other posts on here pertaining to the invisible Sim glitch, so forgive me if I am posting in the wrong place.

I have a family in town that show there is an invisible baby in their home. I tried to take control of the baby through edit town and it shows her name in the family list, but not her picture. I waited for quite a while as my computer was "processing" for like 10+ minutes and I finally just closed the game through task manager.

I would like to pursue this one because this baby is a grandchild of my legacy family, and also because it may help somebody else having this problem.

Here is what I thought about doing, but wanted to make sure I don't cause a worse problem. I have made a copy of the family to the library menu and another copy of the family & their house. Should I use bulldozer and clear the lot and then go back into the game and use edit town/library copy and put them back in the town? Or is there an easier option? I've tried everything I can think of, but no luck yet.

Thank you for any help.

Good Guy

You could actually go into the save folder and make a copy of that saved town and keep it somewhere safe while you experiment with the main copy.

Thanks for replying! This is very good advise for everybody. I have back ups to the back ups just to be safe. I'm not taking any chances - lol.

I haven't experimented yet on this issue. I was kind of just waiting to hear from other people on the forum to toss out their thoughts and ideas. But in the meantime, I have made back ups and have many "Save As" copies to my game.

I haven't given up all hope yet, but I am getting myself prepared to say goodbye to my beloved grandbaby Sim. The odd thing is that I have this grandbaby in several of my other
"Save As" copies, just not in my main game. Unfortunately this is where she is "bugged or glitched". I'm not sure if I should experiment on my main game as I may be even more sorry than I am now. The only new thought I had was to let Grimmy take them all, bulldoze the house and then place my saved copy of them and their house from the library. If I go this route, should I go to the mausoleum and delete their tombstones as well? I am not sure how the game would work with this option because of how it keeps track of family members in the family tree history of the game.

Any guesses, thoughts or suggestions from anybody on the forum?

I think if you already have saved games from before, just evict them and bulldoze the house.  You can always delete them from the bin, not sure if I would kill them off and then bulldoze, but that is my opinion.  I just started having this problem recently with the sims being invisible.  There picture was still there and the sim was making drinks, but in this case it was an easy fix by just using resetsim.  I hope you get it figured out, good luck. :)

Saltypaws, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

If I evict the Sims from their home will they move to the clipboard for me to place in another home? I have never evicted before so I was curious to know what to expect in advance. Is there a chance that the family will be removed from the town or just be more townies without a home tag? I tried to move them out but the game will not let me because the Simbaby can not be left alone without an adult. I click on her "box" where her picture is suppose to be, but it just kind of freezes like when you have an object/item stuck in your inventory bag.

If I evict them, and bulldoze the house as you suggested, then reload the family back in from the library, what if the original Sims are still in the town? Will the "copy's" then become their clones? That would be really freaky. It could be kind of funny though when you stop and think about the two passing each other in the town or meeting each other for the first time and becoming friends to themselves - lol - sounds similar to a twilight zone episode I once saw, ha ha.

I am afraid of creating another problem to deal with, if you know what I mean.

Thanks Salty :)

Evicting the family moves them to your clipboard.  They'll appear in a window in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.  Once you do this, you have 4 ways you can proceed.

  • You can place them in a new home immediately.  The family must be able to afford this home, but you can use the freerealestate cheat to place them in any vacant home in the town without affecting their family funds.
  • You can merge them with an existing family.  This costs them nothing and their family funds will be added to the household funds of the family they're merging with.  Obviously, there could not be more than 8 sims in the household for you to be able to do this.
  • You can save a copy of the family as they are now to the bin.  They will retain all of their skills, jobs and personal inventories, regardless of which town they are placed in.  If the original copy of this family is there, they will be unaffected.  You will have two copies of the same family, but one of them will have obvious progress.
  • You can delete the family entirely.  You can open up the family panel by clicking the clipboard, and then clicking on the trash can icon, or you can simply exit Edit Town and your clipboard will be cleared automatically.

If you evict the family and use a fresh copy from your bin, the original family will not be in the town unless you actually place them somewhere.  And even if you did do that, all that would happen is that there will be another family in the town with the same name and that look just like the family you're playing.  Other than these similarities, there will be no relation between them.  They'd just be like any other townies.

Ok, I have finished my experimenting on my invisible Grandbaby Sim issue. I would like to share what I discovered so that it might offer answers to others who may be having the same or similar issues.

First, I had "testingcheatsenabled true" and "moveObjects on" cheats on. I tried to move the Sim family out of their house but could not because the Sim baby was glitched. I tried the "resetSim" option several times which did not work.

I could not bulldoze the house because she was stuck inside of it.

I went back into live mode and zoomed in on their house. I "shift + clicked" on their lot and clicked "build on this lot". I then took this house apart piece by piece with the hammer/mallet tool. I worked my way from top to bottom including the entire landscape. I deleted every single thing until only 1 item remained. I found that the glitched item was a floor panel just inside the front door. I could not delete it because that is what the invisible Simbaby was sitting on.

As a last resort, I had to "shift + click" on the adult Sims and click "Trigger Age Progression" until they were ghosts. Once they were gone, their children were gone too, not dead - just gone.

I then went back into edit town and bulldozed the lot to be sure it was clean and free. I put my saved copy of the family and their house back in place and it was all good. The Grandbaby was back and I was happy.

But, there is a downside as well. My Sim daughter that I had to kill off is considered dead in the family tree. Her new "clone" and family are back into the town, but she and her family members are only considered townies now. There is no family identity/connection between her and her Father, Mother and siblings. :(

I deleted her gravestone and her husbands and it doesn't change anything. She is still just a stranger to her parents and siblings.

Thanks to everybody who responded to my posts and for your advise!

I hope this information will be helpful to someone else. Good Luck!
