Are washers and dryers needed?
« on: March 14, 2012, 12:43:01 PM »
I registered my games (bought WA yesterday) and have frees points.  Was window shopping and saw the laundry sets.  Caught my attention as I am doing laundry between playing.  Need now to go and put towels in dryer and another load in washer  ;D

Are washers and dryers really needed?  If we send our sim to the dresser to change clothes, why is a washer and dryer needed?  Unless it is for families?

What items are really a must; are there some that really are needed to be bought?

Washers and dryers aren't needed if you don't want them.  There is a moodlet that Sims get from having freshly launder clothes and sheets that just helps their happiness meter.   A dryer is also upgradeable with a handy sim.   Also, if you have a stinky sim and they change clothes, they may not be fully stinky which means less time needed to make them go shower sometimes.

I personally find washers and driers irritating as my Sims tend to leave piles of dirty laundry around whenever they change clothes. This just means extra work for the maid or the Sim cleaning the house and most of the time my maids tend to ignore the piles of clothes and go grab a sandwich or something.

Anyway long story short no you do not need the laundry items I would say the most essential kitchen applience is a fridge followed by either a microwave or oven.

I'm so glad someone else finds them irritating. I have real life laundry to do. I don't need to tell my Sims to pick up their stinky clothes too. After the novelty wore off I seldom put them in the house anymore.

IF you want the fresh clothes moodlet and don't want the hassle of doing laundry, add a laundromat to your town, go there and spend $60 to wash clothes.  You don't need to BRING dirty laundry, just spend the simoleans.  Think of it as a moodlet vending machine.

By the way, you need Ambitions EP to have laundromats. The store's washer & dryer should work without it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I never place a washer/dryer on my house because of the amount of clothes baskets needed, it's just too much trouble and annoying. (my sims mood is usually maxed anyway) But I like visiting the laundromat every now and then, to get the laundry moodlet for several days and meet some neighbors.

Like RunAmokSims stated,  I have enough laundry in real life to do.   Adding some to a game I play to help relax from life seem a bit oxymornic.

I can think of more fun things to "spend" my points on.  So, I am glad that I don't have to buy any laundry sets.

Thanks for the tips about the laundromats.

I don't have Ambitions, bought WA a day or two ago and downloaded the free one from the store.

These games are getting addictive, LOL

Town Life Stuff has a laundromat too. I uninstalled Ambitions temporarily to test something and I could still do laundry thanks to the store set I bought a while ago and that stuff pack. I find laundry a little annoying but also amusing. Oh the expressions those sims make. :)

One thing I find frustrating is a person using words incorrectly.

My son and I disagree on my choice of word of oxymorinic.  He feels that "ironic" would be a better choice.
I can concure that ironic is a better choice, however, I do not concede that oxymornic is totally incorrect.

I hate to do laundry, I am doing laundry because I enjoy it.  Contridiction, you can not enjoy doing what you don't enjoy.  Oxymorn is, basically, a contridiction.

Therefore, taking on the role of my sim, buying a washer and dryer so I can do laundry and enjoy doing so is a oxymornic.
Ironic is to take a job doing what I don't like.  Family owns a laundry mat and you seek a job esewhere as you don't want to do laundry.  Take a job and find out that you are assigned the task of doing laundry.

I know that this is off topic here, but due to my frustration with the incorrect usage of words, I wanted to clarify my choice.

Please feel free at any time to correct me when I am wrong.  I appreciate being corrected so I don't make a complete fool of myself.   :-[  I don't like continuing to say something that is incorrect, thus misinforming others.  Plus, I take medication thats numbur one side effect is mental confusion.   :(

The washer and dryer work without it. I have only the base game installed and bought the laundry set and everything works. No laundromat, obviously.

And I think of ironic (outside of literary irony) as when the outcome is the opposite of what was expected. So since I don't like laundry in real life, you would expect that I would also dislike it in Sims. But in fact I enjoy it. How ironic. It is the expectation that differentiates it from oxymoron, which is a more simple juxtaposition of opposites. Like "living dead" or "jumbo shrimp." Most oxymorons are two word phrases like that. Hope that helps.
