SocialCache File
« on: March 09, 2012, 01:56:35 PM »
Ok, most of us should be familiar with cache files in your game by now.  However, it seems that there is a new one:  SocialCache.package.  It was added with the new patch, and so far conversation regarding it has been somewhat minimal.

I am in the habit of deleting my cache files every time I load my game (in fact, I have a script that does this and then launches the game without the launcher).  But, so far there is virtually no information as to what it is.  It is known that it is safe to delete it, but what does it do?

I've searched the web for information on this, but I've come up empty handed.

My guess is that it's related to My Page and maybe SimPort. I've noticed that it gets larger if I chat while I'm playing.

Incidentally, I was PM'd by someone asking if I knew whether SocialCache was safe to delete recently. I pointed her in the direction of a thread - here's the information I pointed her to:

Yes, the socialcache is a package file. I deleted mine accidentally, but it didn't harm my game. It seems to be like other cache files.

Yes, I'm aware that this file is safe to delete.  What I want to know for sure is what information is being cached in it.  It's a big file (mine's at 75mb right now), and if it's just going to recreate all the information in it, I'm concerned that it might have an impact on my performance at some point.  If it's just past notifications being stored, then okay...but if it uses this to recreate my wall when i open it, then I'm thinking that it's something to delete maybe once a month or so.
