Legacy Challenge Question
« on: April 17, 2010, 01:22:28 PM »
New Member here, so not sure this is the right forum to post this question. I am doing my first legacy challenge and I was wondering if it is possible to move a pre-made house onto my sim's lot and still remain within the rules. If so, how do you do it? Now that they have some money, I can afford to "buy" a house instead of building my own. Thanks in advance for any insights.  :)

Part of the fun of the legacy challenge is that you can modify the rules to suit you. Nobody is grading it, so make adjustments to make it so you like it more. For example, I have some mods that I use for my legacy, such as one that makes it so you can do an autograph session each day instead of each week. It is probably marked as cheating for the challenge, but I like that modification so I use it.

I have been through 2 House designs and I am only at Gen 5, I think you should just build as otherwise your house that you move in might not work if you have to add on loads of extra rooms...

 First House

Second House (Changed Outside Garden and Garage Now)

You have to go into EditMode, go into the library and there are your hosues. As long as they have been saved there you should be able to select them and click Place and a list of available empty lots should appear.

But the problem comes because the family already lives on the lot. I would not be placing it on an empty lot. The legacy challenge I am doing specified that I use a certain lot for my family. :(

The way I do it, once my family has oodles of money (usually by the 3rd or 4th generation) they essentially have enough to live wherever they want.  The way I read the rules, the only reason that you have to start on that lot is because it's the most expensive one in town and that way you start out poor with hardly enough to get by, that's part of the fun in starting a new Legacy.  But once you have 2.5 Million simolians that particular rule becomes somewhat irrelevant in my opinion.  So then I just move my family into whichever house I like the most.  Usually my family moves every other generation just for some variety.

Like someone else said, no one is going to check your Legacy score, so play it however you like. :)

As far as I can see, yes you can place a prebuilt house onto your original lot because technically it's the same as building one yourself.

Hi StamperCat and welcome to the Forum!

It's sort of a debate with legacy challenges and their rules.  The point of doing any kind of challenge is that you make yourself obey someone else's rules and not your own.  That's why it's a challenge.  While some people just change the rules to suit themselves, not everyone wants to do that.  All of the suggestions here are good if you don't mind bending Pinstar's rules.  But here's my advice if you're being strict.

The rules of Pinstar's Legacy Challenge specifically state that your legacy family has to live on the same lot for the duration of the challenge.  I've seen some houses on the Exchange described as being "legacy compliant" and I take that to mean that the house meets all of the restrictions of the challenge.  I just looked at Pinstar's rules again and I don't see that it's forbidden to place a pre-made house on the lot.  The problem I see with it, though, is how to technically do it.  Your family is already living on the lot, right?  So how do you place a new house there?  The only thing I can think of would be to use Edit Town, put the family on the clipboard, place the house, then put the family back on the lot.  I really think that would be a good way to do it and stay within the restrictions of the challenge.  I thought that there were rules about certain items being allowed on your lot, but I don't see that in the rules now.  As long as there's nothing that would give you a significant advantage over other players, it should be fine.

I hope this has helped you.  We also have some very nice challenges of our own here.  We have a 2010 Tournament going on that will have a world ranking for everyone who participates.  A couple of the challenges have already closed, but there's still a few that are still active and one that just started yesterday.  They're lots of fun and I hope maybe you'll join in.  :)
