Deleting foundation??
« on: February 23, 2012, 10:23:08 PM »
So I am new at playing the Sims, and I built my house on top of a foundation. I just finished decorating and everything, and I realized-my sims can't get into the house  :-\! Is there anyway I can delete the foundation without deleting the entire house, or is there a small set of stairs I can buy to put at my doors so that my sims can get in?? If anyone has advice, that would be so great! Thanks!  :)

Hi tracebeck, welcome to the forum  :). I'm afraid there isn't a way of removing foundation from under a home short of rebuilding it completely, but there are some little stairs you can use to get into the house. Just extend the foundation at least two spaces out from the front door to make a small deck, and then click on the stairs tool in build mode. You can then place some stairs leading from your deck to the ground.

Since you're new to the Sims, I'd suggest having a look through our guide for some playing and building tips. Happy Simming!  :D

Hey! If you could link some images that might make it easy to suggest the best route.

For now, you could delete a small area of foundation near the entrance. Just delete the wall where you would like to set the stairs, delete the foundation there and then use the normal stair tool to build stairs and then recreate the wall. Or you can do as Ausette suggested and build some extra foundation for a deck. You can then use some columns and fencing and a smaller roof area to finish off the deck.

In general foundation can indeed be deleted inside a house, this is the basis for creating multi-level stories. You could even delete the foundation entirely for a floating house hah. If the game does not let you rebuild the foundation, turn CFE to false and then build it. But remember to start the building by dragging the new foundation from the height of the old foundation so it is all even. Cheers!

Constrainfloorelevation is a very advanced cheat, and not really something that should be attempted by someone who's new to building...never mind someone completely new to the Sims.

I don't suggest you use this cheat until you are more comfortable and confident with building.  This cheat quite literally throws all the rules your game applies to build mode out the window, and can wreak unimaginable havoc on a build unless you are aware of how it works and what it allows you to do.  Save that one for a later date, after you've got a bit more experience under your belt.  ;)

Hm, true, I did not think of that. Maybe I should write a guide on the very basics of CFE. I always just figure it is a basic took in the builder's kit, but I remember when I had no idea what foundation was hah. Sorry about that. I think the easiest thing to do would be to extend the foundation and build a deck (colored foundation, the deck tool is not needed) as Ausette suggested or delete a few tiles of wall in the front, build stairs there and then rebuild the walls around the stairs.

Actually, that's a very good idea.  It really does seem to be your forte.

Edit:  Oh, you already have.  :P

It's not a big problem to put stairs, your house is safe  ;D-  just do what Ausette  wrote, it's quite easy - don't worry... ;)

It's not a bad idea to do stairs two-wide (using the slider under stairs), too, so that multiple sims can pass each other at the same time and aren't yelling at you.

On a sidenote, the in-game graphic is a little misleading, as it shows stairs right up to the door. :-) On more than one occasion, I neglected to realize the door needed two squares out and had to start over.
