Issues With Build/Buy Mode in Apartments

I recently moved my Sim into an apartment I got from the Swap Shop, and whenever I enter Build or Buy mode, my game lock up when I try to go back into live mode. It's very frustrating, since I'd like to make changes to it.
Any ideas on how to fix it?

How long you have waited? My game froze for few minutes (real time, not in the game) once returning form buy/build mode to live mode oftenly.

Now I realize playing the Sims 3 on Mac is playing the game of installation and uninstallation...
