Controlling the orientation of a gable roof
« on: February 18, 2012, 09:58:49 AM »
I've noticed that when placing a gable roof on a rectangular (one dimension longer than the other) structure that the orientation of the gable is automatically aligned with the longer dimension.

Is there a way to force the gable to align with the shorter dimension instead?

Yes there is! If you look at the panel of different roof shapes, you'll notice an option in the top row called "Tall Gable Roof". It's exactly the same as the normal gable roof, except it aligns in the opposite direction. Also, welcome to the forum PolarBair.  :)

Oh wow! Thank you! :) I never would have thought to try that. Gotta wonder what EA is thinking some times. lol

P.S. Oh and thanks for the welcome. I actually enjoy building more than playing the sims so I'm really glad I found this forum. :)

Gotta wonder what EA is thinking some times.

If I had to guess, I'd say that they were thinking that they needed to keep things simple.  Automatic orientation of the roof serves that purpose well, but building in general takes a bit of exploring and experimentation to get the hang of and to figure out how best to use all the tricks.  I've been building houses since Sims 3 came out (and in Sims 1 and 2 as well, but really this is a completely different ball game), and I'm still learning new things.

That's why I like seeing new faces in this section of the forum.  It means that something new is just around the corner.  ;)
