I don't think so, At my first attempt all the 4 I recruited were guitarists and everyone played a different instrument but we were bad
so I restarted and took one member at the time first it was Matty Crew or something like that , he is pianist, at second suzy strummer she was at the drum, and finally peton suzuki, she was at the bass, Now we jam everyone takes the right instrument, you can always start jammin on your own, and then ask people to join, and you'll see what instrument they play, hope I helped.

No, you didn't. I'm aware of JAMMING, but I'm talking about gigs.

Only the Sim that got the opportunity can choose his instrument, for now.

But maybe someone managed to do what I've failed?

When choosing band members, they will lay the instrument they were playing when you asked them to join the band. My sim was maxed in piano and guitar. She asked Lola Bell ro join when Lola was playng the piano. I wanted Lola to play the guitar. So, be careful, because many sims try other instruments that they are not good at.

I've created a band from my household members. When each mastered his own instrument, one Sim started mastering the rest of the instrument. They all played their designated instruments UNTIL the guitarist mastered drums; he then played the drums, while the drummer (with no guitar skills) manned the guitar. It's extremely frustrating and annoying.

ok maybe I wasn't clear, when jamming it is the same as Gigs, like Momoll said evry member  keeps playing the same instrument on gigs and jamming once they joined , once it is done you can't go back, maybe if you kick them out of the band and then ask them to re-join they'll change instrumants?
the best solution is to choose carfully, start jamming with your sim, ask the sim you want to put in the band to join, then you'll see wich instrument they play, like that you'll be sure not to have 4 guitarist on a band

I think I'm not understood here, so I'll break it down. I have 4 Sims in a band:
Hadrian: The Guitarist, mastered the Piano and Drums.
Charles: The Bassist, mastered the Bass.
Misery: The Drummer, mastered the Drums.
Rohan: The Pianist, mastered the Piano.

They've always been in the same household, and jammed EXACTLY on these instruments since the inception of the band. They all played the same instruments until Hadrian mastered the Piano. Then, he began playing the Drums instead of Misery, and he began playing the Guitar, even though he sucks in it. I will try kicking them both out, and then inviting them again, but I'm not sure.

OK, but did you guys managed to play 15 gigs, thus completing the gigs challenge? Mine is 11 so far by the way.

Never made it to 15 because the story progression moved one of my band members away and then another band member died after one Gig. I may try to do it again soon.
