Buying dog/cat

I can't find an option to BUY a dog or cat.  I'm wanting pure breeds but all I can find is an option to adopt mixed animals.  I realize there are ways to cheat like merging a new family or the cheat menus but I'm trying to figure out how to do it correctly.  I have the pet shop but don't see an option there either on the register.

First off, the subject of this topic is very vague.  Please make it more specific to your issue so that people who are browsing the Forum will have a good idea of what the topic is about.  You can do this by clicking the Modify button on your first post.

Ok, now about buying cats and dogs.  You can't.  If you want a pure bred dog or cat, you have to create it in Create A Pet.  You can do this at the start of a game when you create a Sim.  Your other option while in the game is to adopt a dog or cat from the shelter.  There are sometimes pure bred animals there, you just have to watch for them.  I'm afraid that's about all you can do.  In my current game, I made two Chows at the start and they have had 4 puppies.

Okay, I haven't tried this myself but it might work. You can do this if you don't mind cheating a little.

First, adopt a pet of the age and gender you want. Open the cheat console by pressing ctrl + shift + c. Enter "testingcheatsenabled true" without quotations, and then shift-click the pet. Select "Edit Sim in CAS" or something to that effect, and then you can customize their breed, traits, ect. from there. As long as you don't change the age or gender, you should be fine.

What Gameactive suggested works fine. I've done it several times. You can even change the sex and age if you want without any problems.
Only problems I've had with editing them in CAS is changing the size of a dog from a small dog to a large dog or large to small. After coming back to live mode they will sometimes change back and forth in sizes, making the dog look strange, for a few sim day or two before it settles down and stays the size you changed them to.
