Young Again Potion for Pets

Hello all!

I've got a Sim-doggie whom I've extremely fond of (taught all the tricks, maxed hunting skill, became BFFs with it.... ahem, I mean, my Sim did these things), and with all the hard-earned happiness points, bought it a Young Again Potion for Pets. It is now an elder, and I am getting a little worried, as I cannot for the life of me work out how to get it to drink the potion... It just sits in the inventory! Does anyone know how to activate this, or do I just need to wait until Grim comes knocking?

Move the potion to a sim's (human) inventory and click on it. A option to choose a pet to give it will pop up.
