Pancakes and baby girls?
« on: April 01, 2010, 03:33:54 PM »
I have heard that if you eat watermelon your baby will be a girl and with apples it will be a boy, but has anyone else noticed a connection with pancakes?

It could just be a crazy coincidence, but I noticed that every time my sims had children, they were girls. I had heard about the watermelon apple thing, but I am not a gardener and never ate either of those. I was slightly suspicious of the pancakes since they had fruit in them, but without having fruit in your inventory they default to Chirimola Blan Grape pancakes which I didn't think had any affect, but just in case it did, I avoided pancakes next pregnancy. Sure enough, it was at last a boy!

I haven't paid special attention or run any tests on this theory, but any time I think about it and avoid, or load up on, pancakes I get the gender I want.

Has anyone else noticed this, or know something about this?

The most common Pancakes I get are Apple and Charmonila Blan ones, since apples make the babies boys then I would think it could have an affect if they have apples in them.

From Sims 3's website (http://www.thesims3.com/game/patches/-1926857733) concerning patch 1.3:
"Eating specific prepared meals no longer has an impact on an unborn baby's gender".

What this means is, that before patch 1.3, meals prepared with apples or watermelons affected the baby's gender. With patch 1.3, only the pure apple or watermelon fruits give this effect, not meals prepared with them.
Watermelons give an increased chance for girls. Apples give an increased chance for boys.

That would make sense if I was getting boys from pancakes, but they were always girls?!??
I am sure I never had a watermelon pancake =)

As unlikely as it seems, it was probably just coincidence.  :)

Yes, that bug was fixed several patches ago.

It just happens I guess, like in real life. One of my uncles has four kids, and they're all girls.

If you are going to use fruit to determine gender though, make sure you wait till mom sim has the pregnant moodlet.

There's some research that shows that the best time to determine the gender with fruit is BEFORE she knows she's pregnant.  Just to be safe, my mothers-to-be eat watermelon from the time of woohoo until labor.  :D

Mine too. I've always kept a good stock of watermelon in the fridge and in the backyard on the vines :)

Mortimer Goth: Marsha, that was incredible. I'm going to write a romantic novel describing what just happened.
Marsha Brady: Well, I'm just going to eat a piece of watermelon.
Jan Brady: Marsha, Marsha, MARSHA!
Marsha: JAN! Can we have some privacy please?!

It never seems to be accurate for me unless I wait until the sim has the pregnant moodlet. Doing it while the sim has the moodlet has been a hundred percent accurate for me, but before the moodlet shows up it has been iffy.

Well what I think Pam meant was not just before the moodlet, but during the whole duration of the pregnancy she has her Sim eat watermelons. That's what I do too when I want to be specific about genders. Sometimes though I just let it happen and it's kind of fun not knowing until the last minute. :)

If I want to have a boy I let the mother eat 3 apples immediately after the woohoo, if I want to have a girl I let her eat 3 watermelons immediately after the woohoo. After that I don't do anything more, but this has never failed for me. Sure, it may just be chance for 10 times in a row, but that's equal to a probability of once every 1024th attempt so I believe that eating the fruits before the moodlet appears also works.

However, I've heard also that the fruits can never 100% guarantee a specific gender. I'm yet to confirm this personally, but the risk of that could still influence any attempts to show that it doesn't work before the moodlet appears.

I have tested this out many times, apples for boys, watermelons for girls. It has always worked out for me in my game. My Sim father has 7 kids between 4 different moms, and in each case, the gender I wanted was what I got.
I usually take a few precautions to ensure that my Sim mom only has access to and eats only the fruit needed to have either a boy or a girl. So, if I want a girl, I remove all apples from the refrigerator and also inside of her personal inventory and off of the property if needed. I keep watermelon in the refrigerator and inside of her inventory and have her snack on it until the baby is born.
In the case where the Sim mom was not part of my household and I did not have control over her, I had the Sim dad stay at her house until the baby is born and place the fruit choice inside of his inventory and then put it into the refrigerator at her house. I don't know for sure if it was just purely a coincidence or not, but in each case I did get whichever gender I wanted.
