Has anyone ever seen a clumsy sim trip over their own feet? I have. It's hilarious, especially since she has level 8 athletic and was running around town.

I don't normally have clumsy sims, but some of mine are born with the 'Falls over when opening the draws of Wardrobe' trait!  ;D

Is it possible to have the athletic trait while being clumsy?

Do clumsy sims fall off the treadmill more often?

I'm pretty sure you can, because Athletic isn't all running and stuff, its also bench-pressing and what not. However, (being a clumsy person myself) I find it unusually funny to see them just stand there and lose their balance (then I normally reflect on how many times I've done that too.)
I've also seen them about to cast into a pond or something when they fall on their own butt. It was possibly one of the funniest and most realistic things my Sims do!

Regarding fishing and sims falling on their butts when they attempt to cast, it can happen without the clumsy trait. ;D

Yes, it's just part of the early levels of fishing.

Does clumsy impact the paintings that they paint?

I don't think clumsy is one of the painting style traits.

My funniest clumsy sim was a doctor. She was always having accidents at work. Don't think i'd want that clumsy doctor cutting on me with a scalpel.  :D

My clumsy Sim dropped the ring while proposing :D. Shame I didn't manage to capture it.

Do the clumsy trait actually add anything positive to the sim?
I know that there are some funny animations and that they're more likely to break objects, but has anyone experienced any benefit from it?
In Carl's guide: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/traits/physical-trait-list.php,  he implies that it's just for fun, but I've never used this trait myself, so I'm a little intrigued by it. ;)

I only used the clumsy trait once for one of my Sims when I played the Asylum Challenge, he was always tripping...he also would get squirted in the face when he made coffee (never got a shot of that one, it was pretty funny).  Here is a pic of him tripping that kind of ended up being a glitch (he's the one in the Tux)  ;) :
