All Sims Selectable at Once - Glitch or Mistake??
« on: January 05, 2012, 10:34:12 AM »
Again, unsure if this has already been covered somewhere (and sorry if it has) but I am having a huge problem with all sims becoming selectable at the same time.
It started when I clicked on one sim, had her do something and then clicked on the other one only to find that instead of changing from one to the other it just added the second sim onto being selectable as well. Only, it still had the first sims face on the panel, and the second sims inventory and moods etc. I then (stupidly) clicked on another sim, and another and another until the entire family is stuck as selectable, only you can't really tell them to do anything because it's all confused with who you are actually controlling. I couldn't find a way to fix it, so I decided to change the active family as this one was useless anyway. Only to find that even after changing families I STILL had those first six original sims portraits as selectable, it was as if the new family was not even there! Tried switching a couple more times, moving the original family out and back in, even going so far as to delete the original family - nothing. Still selectable, even though they no longer exist.
So just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue or if anyone knows how to fix it. I ended up switching games and that seems to be working for now, but I am living in fear of it happening again  >:( Plus, I would really love to get my old game back, even if the family is now gone.

I have no CC, no mods (though I used to have one mod) and have never experienced this issue before now. Hopefully someone knows what to do??

Welcome to the Forum! :) And please remember next time to not mention the name of mods you use, because they aren't allowed to be discussed here. Here's the forum Rules if you haven't read them already: Forum Rules

And I have had that problem happen to me before! Have you tried the cheat resetsim (simname) ? Hopefully that will help. Or you can reset the whole neighborhood with resetsim *

Oops! Sorry I'll correct that and make sure not to do it again.
Yes I did try resetting the sims, but it only happened again as soon as I clicked on them. I did not try resetting the whole neighborhood though (I wasn't aware that you could) but I'll definitely try that next, thanks!

Okay, no problem! I hope that other cheat works. If not maybe we can try and figure out something else.

Another thing that might help is to clear the caches - see this thread for details.

This actually JUST happened to me a couple of hours ago. All I did was save and go to the Main Menu and then load it back up.
I don't know if that's a permanent fix but it hasn't happened again since then.

Okay, so resetting neighborhood has not worked, nor has saving going to menu, quitting etc. I think another reinstall may have to be done, as it is now happening with pretty much every family I load. Argghhh so frustrating!

Gosh that's no good! I've never had it that bad. You could just try a factory reset. Link: Factory Reset

Thanks Kattiq, I have actually tried the Factory Reset already. I have also cleared caches, deleted .bad saves, deleted DC backup files...No change :(
I recently tried a new fresh town as well and it worked fine for a bout an hour and then the awful selectability glitch happened AGAIN. I think I am going to be stuck with families of just one single sim and no pets at this rate!

Unsure if reinstalling has fixed the selectibility issue, but it has returned the original load time issue. Argghhh! I am back to 1 hour+ load times (or more, it has not even loaded yet I am still waiting, it isn't looking like it is loading at all) I got to the choose town section (I put my old non corrupted towns back in) and chose a game, and nothing has really happened since.
Going to try deleting all my EA files all together and not putting the old saves back in, so I'll lose everything but hopefully it fixes the issue....looks like it may be time for a new computer (Because I can't give up the sims!)  :-[

I have a 6 month - 1 year old Asus laptop (ASUS notebook K53F/K62F series) with an Intel Core i3 CPU processor and it says on here that it has a "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator" (Not sure if that is even relevant) Though it only has 75 Gigs of memory available for use, it has a Data (D:) drive with 200 gigs but it's completely empty and I havn't figured out how to get the computer to use that memory instead of the OS (C:) drive which now only has 2.53 gigs free. Not sure if this could be affecting gameplay but I guess it's possible.
Graphics card is a - Chip type: Intel(R) HD Graphics (Core i3)

Reinstalling and removing old files (completely fresh game) seems to have worked, I played for a couple of hours last night with no selectibility issues so far. However there is now another problem, I can't change any colours on the colour wheel because whenever I go to choose a colour for anything (hair, clothes, pet fur etc.) it glitches and get's stuck n the colour wheel/swatches, and when I click a colour instead of slecing it it just hpvers around and I can't click anything once this happens. Sp far the only way I've found to get out of it once this happens is to turn of tf the computer and restart. So frustrating!

Geez, you can't catch a break can you? I'm sorry :( I've never had the color thing happen before, it just sometimes takes forever to get all the swatches loaded.

I'm really not sure what else to tell you unless you want to try and uninstall again, which is a real pain!
And so your laptop has 200gb free?? That's a lot of memory!
The drive you are working out of now that only has 2.53gb could be affecting gameplay. I'm on a mac so things are slightly different so I can't say that for sure because I also have 30gb free on mine and I don't have any problem.
You could try and delete some stuff off your computer that you don't need and maybe get some more free space back?
I'm not really an expert on these types of things but you can try looking at this thread that is about choosing a laptop that can play Sims 3 efficiently. I don't know but maybe it could help narrow down your problem if your laptop doesn't have something it needs. Choosing a Laptop
