Install content without the launcher?
« on: December 02, 2011, 07:46:25 PM »
I've been having issues with my launcher since the last update. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Most of the time, not. I have downloaded one of my own lots because for some reason it's not in my library, and I can't get it to install with the launcher. Is there a way around this?

I read somewhere double-clicking the sims3pack will install the item. I can't vouch for whether it works or not, as I can't remember the site I found this at, so therefore, how trustworthy it is. That, and I've never tried it.

I've tried that way too, without success :( If there is another way around it, it would still be good info.

For the time being I remembered I had made a save with that particular lot, and I fortunately had an uncorrupted version on another HDD (everything that I had backed up in my documents got corrupted somehow either with pets or with my 2 new SPs when I had to do a full reinstall)

Chuckles, it is possible you had some store items in the house.  For some reason the game does not like installing houses which contain store items.  Might be an anti-piracy thing but annoying if you own the stuff.

I prefer saving houses as library files.  They are smaller files and it does not matter what content you have in it because the cc is not contained in the file.

That may well be it then. It was jam packed full of store content. The only problem I have with library items is that they aren't labelled in a recognisable way. I'm sure I have a backup as a library file somewhere, but the trouble is I'd never be able to tell which one it is. Fortunately I still have that save file - which has my scientist ex-five-star-chef sim so I can fully upgrade everything, and add a chef's fridge to any house I want to.

You can change the name of library files to something that makes more sense to you.  If I am creating one, I note the time I created it so I can identify it later (sorting the files in the library first) and then just rename it to whatever I want. ;)

Thanks Figwit :) That's good to know. I wasn't sure if I could safely rename the files in that folder. That will make things a LOT easier in the future
