Guests and Posting/PM
« on: March 13, 2010, 12:33:29 PM »
I don't think Guest should be alowed to post on here if they don't join, you may have seen someone called Stacy (Guest) had been posting using text/slang language and had made three posts of the same question because Pam deleted the first two which were posted at the same time. I replied telling her not to write like that and now she is PMing me about what I said.

y r u bein funny wiv me for no reason im lookin for help not smarmy comments n il rite how i like thanx

So if possible Guests should at least not be able to PM members.

This is her latest post/poll

This shouldn't be necessary. Not all guests are like that Stacy. As long as they live by the forum rules it should be okay. If they don't want to join us for any reason, let it be and allow them to post.

The issue here that Pam raised is how can a Guest even post if they're not registered? I deleted the  original source which Pam moved to the Graveyard — a boneheaded move and I apologize to Pam. Carl can hopefully look into this and figure out why this person was able to post.

Didn't she just delete her account? Then it looks like she's a guest. Probably some weird troll. ::)

I didn't think they could post and definitely didn't think they could PM?

I think PJ is right. I think Sarah deleted her account after getting annoyed. So, it would appear she originally registered, made her posts and PMs, and then deleted her account.

Guests can't do that. If they could forums would be flooded with spam and nonsense.

What they can do is register for an account, post weird alphabet soup like the above, then immediately delete their account. That doesn't make their posts and PMs disappear, it just makes it look as if a guest made them but they weren't actually a guest at the time the PM was sent, see?

This all does seem awfully strange. I haven't seen any indication that this was possible without an account.

Now that is pretty weird. All I can figure is she must have registered then deleted the account several times in a row. Now I really think it was a weirdo troll.

Oh well, at least she didn't stick around for long. If something like that happens again please say so.

Hey yall, I've ran similar forums.  When a person deletes themselves or is deleted, it will show everything in the past as a guest account.

Here's my speculation. Samoht, she probably remade her account when she saw your post, sent you a PM, then deleted the account again as soon as she sent the message.
