Guide for France? Tomb Raiding tips.
« on: March 12, 2010, 04:34:57 AM »
When I first looked at Carl's site, it was after I installed World Adventures - it popped up in Google while I was shopping on-line. Since I had already been playing vanilla Sims for some time, I was really interested with making the most of my Sims ;)

After travelling for a while, I noticed the lack of guide for France. It was particularly unpleasant since I got really stuck under the nectary, and I would've loved some help back then.
So why is there no guide?

And in general, I don't know how the administrator/moderators feel about it, but I found here among the many posts a cheat that saved me from hours of frustration, and helped me get motivated: the "buy on this lot" shift-click option. I would've never guessed otherwise where there are the Maze of the High Ruler and Smuggler's Cavern, and it helps when you're stuck looking for "the last sigil/symbol/signet in your collection". I know it's a cheat, but desperate times call for desperate measures, I think some people might appreciate a mention of such way in the cheats section, and a link in tomb raiding tips. It's the closest thing to a map you can get, when you're out of ideas and you've seemingly searched every wall of the tomb.

My personal favourite is The Landgraab Castle :D Avoiding electrocution while walking around a spooky castle was incredible.

So why is there no guide?

There is no guide for France because the staff for Carl's Guide and Carl himself are overworked with site issues and real life.  Carl told me yesterday that he expects to publish the guide for France tomorrow, if everything goes well.  As for the other issue you mentioned, there's a board here on the forum for suggestions and corrections to Carl's Guide.  If something is missing or would be helpful to add, it needs to be posted there and Carl will review it and decided if it should go in the guide.

Pam, I know this is kind of off topic, but is it just my computer or web browser, or is the site's time just way different from my own? Up until I noticed it today, the time of post (where it says what time the post occurred) has always been my time. Now, I've noticed several post that say March 11th, instead of "today", and then others say "Today at 3:00 AM" when I'm not even close to that time, I live in Texas! So is it just my settings for the guide on my account, or is my computer screwed up?

To make things a little clearer, apparently the forum says that it is March 12 at 6:25 PM, where I'm 95% sure that is way off.

Good deal. I just informed Pam of a feature Admins have to change forum time and it was set at -19. Looks like it's correct now.

EDIT: Actually my post time is an hour ahead of the actual time I did post, so it must be something to do with whether or not Daylight Savings Time is current.

I certainly will add the buy on this lot option to the cheats guide. It's a clever way to see all of a tomb and I think I'll use it myself as I work on the Nectary and king's burial mounds in France to ensure I miss nothing. I could have used this in Tuatha's garden, that place was frustrating (the passage to the little island).

Pam's right about France, I'm working on it when I wake up tomorrow and hope to finish it (it's over 50% done).

Thanks for the heads up about the time zone guys, I noticed that when I changed the system time on the server it was set a day ahead on accident. This should all be good now.

Thank you for acknowledging my suggestions! :) Yes, Tuhaha's Garden was frustrating - the first part the most, but not as much as The Nectary for me! I had to use zeneport and go underground cause I couldn't find a way to get down.

Looking forward to your guide to France, Carl :)

I hope he notices the Tundra tomb(the one which requires Pangu's Axe and the only tomb which requires a 2nd sim to complete) in France.

As far as I know there are no tombs which requires two Sims to explore (and there's nothing called Tundra tomb either...?).

If you mean the one that leads to the little island with the rare grapes (Tuatha's garden/the Fairie Tomb) you don't need 2 Sims. There's a room with 5 switches and 4 statues; one of the statues (the green one) can cover 2 switches.

The first time I got there I thought there's a special switch-pushable statue combination needed so that one of the pads turns into a stand-on switch, but the second time I went there (a lot later in the game, when I wanted to find all the signets) I moved around the statues some more, and noticed one of them has the right setting :).

Too bad I already bought my rare grapes from the Special Merchant :<, I would've appreciated the tomb more.

SORRY for the deviation!
