Getting collectibles from Dogs?

I was playing with a cat and I noticed that the cat could "offer" anything he got from hunting. Now that Ive got a dog pet, he's dug up ore/metals and I dont know how to get them to my sim for smelting and cutting and such. I feel like the answer is ridiculously simple, I'm just not getting it >_>

I don't have pets but do dogs have inventories? If so just drag it from there to the sim.

Also, when you have your sim command your dog to hunt for something, he will bring the item he got during said hunt to your sim much like how the cat will offer it.
