That's the sole purpose of the Death Flower.  If you have one in your inventory when your Sim dies, Grim takes it as a gift and spares your Sim.

I understand that part, but on the guide it says it doesn't save them from old age

That was supposed to be updated.  We found out not too long ago that it does save even death from old age.  I'll ask Carl to make the correction.  Thanks for letting us know!

Really!? First thing I hear about that! ;D
If that's the case, then how long does the sim live before meeting the reaper again?

The Sim restarts at the beginning of his life phase.  If elderly, it resets to the beginning of elderly (just like Ambrosia).

Oh boy! I better remove that from my elder Sim's inventory! It's not that I don't want her to live... I very much enjoyed her being around; however, I have a full household and it cannot remain that way for long! If one of the grandchildren of her grows up, they won't be able to get married! I'm glad I've read this! Thank you for posting this. :)

Well, you can always send her to live on a farm, where she can have other grandmas to run and play with... ;D

Yeah, I just recently found this out the hard way too!  I had a spare elder in my house and was expecting him to die any day, he was 94 days old.  And then he dies, and I'm watching thinking "what the heck is he doing??"  Yup, whipped out that death flower!  Grimmy was pretty excited about it but I sure wasn't.  :(

That made me laugh Aria. :D

After reading about that info here I made sure all elders had no death flowers in inventory...and I continually check them.  I have elders who are still around after 50 days, and more after the end of the bar. :o  No death flowers for them.
