Aging pets up

Is there a way to age a pet up like you can with a Sim by using a birthday cake?

I don't think so. They either have to age up naturally or you can use the testingcheatsenabled true cheat, then click on the pet while holding down the shift key and the option to age up should be there.

My guess is you are as disappointed as I am with lack of options for youth pets.  It doesn't seem they put any potty training or anything in unless I'm missing it through reinforcement??

Thanks Miss Estella, I was hopping I missed something. I'll just wait for him to age up, he just has a few days left.

Jesyka, You can train them through reinforcement. If my puppy goes inside the house I can scold him and praise him when he goes outside in the yard. But if the house is on a foundation they can't go down the steps to reach the yard.:(
But I will agree with the lack of options for young pets. I was disappointed my puppy couldn't even get a toy from the toy box to play with.

Grimsoul,

Puppies can play with toys from the toy box, just the sims have to take the toys out for them.

Puppies/Kittens are just too small to to go down the stairs without hurting themselves that's why they can't do it.  Have an older pet or a Sim take toys out for them to play with.  If you have them bark, run around or explore, you can start teaching them new traits to learn at least while you wait for them to age up.

For what it's worth, if you have a non-enclosed porch or deck, that counts as "outside" for purposes of the Neat trait (and most other purposes, as far as I know). You might still have to mop, but at least you can reinforce the trait for when the pet ages up.

Ok about those traits.  What all traits can be trained?  I know fast can for horse, hunting for cat/dog, undestructive for cat/dog, sounds like neat can...

On the potty training, can we order the puppy to pee inside and then scold him for it or do we need to wait for him to pee and hope it's indoors? (maybe locking doors will force if necessary)

Maybe more to the point which desirable traits can't be trained so I know what to watch for in adoptive pets?  Genius?  Loyal?  Obedient?

Can undesirable traits like destructive be trained all the way to undestructive with enough patience and time?

Does scolding work as well as praising for training other than the negative moodlet?

Yes, please read on the Guide and browse the Forum for much of this information.  It's gone off topic for this thread, though.
