Several Problems with World Adventures
« on: October 02, 2011, 12:59:21 AM »
This may be a tad bump-y but I saw this sticky thread and wanted to comment.

I have just recently bought Sims 3 with WA and Generations.

I have not found anything to like in this expansion. I have tried all of the locations at least once and they do not appear to be completed for my game.

I checked the guides and the note about finding that market on the 2nd floor- nope -> no second floor to find so no shop.

To this day, I cannot buy a camera anywhere but in my own buy/build mode.  I cannot buy the Sim fu equipment either.

I am at level 6 in the martial arts training and I have never been given the option to spar.

I also cannot seem to get the 'collecting' off the ground.  My sims may just be dumb as rocks so they don't know enough to pick up a rock if they see one.  I once did see a butterfly field but the game crashed when I tried to get there.

Now, my graphics are sticking while the clock keeps running.  Lots of dead tired, filthy, hungry sims.  This doesn't happen in the 3 day trips. <<sigh>>  I think I will just give up on the travel...

Welcome to our Forum, darski.

I split your post into a separate topic because I feel your issues warrant some discussion and perhaps you can get some assistance.

Can you give us some more information?  You said you recently bought Sims 3, so I assume you're a new player.  Hopefully, your game is actually working fine and we can help you learn more about how to play it.

The first thing I'd like to address is the General Store in Shang Simla, China.  You say there's no second floor, but exactly what are you doing to find it?  When you're at the market, you arrive on the ground level and can access the book store, cafe, and relics store.  On your user interface (the control panel along the bottom), you'll see a set of up and down arrow buttons located to the left of center.  If you click the up button, you'll be able to see the upper level and the General Store, which is to the immediate right of the Relics Store.  Now you can purchase martial arts equipment, one of the cameras, incense burners, tents, and other items.  If these steps aren't working for you, exactly what do you see and what happens?

For sparring, you need to click on another Sim for the interaction.  I believe the spar interaction is found under the Friendly button.  You should definitely be able to spar with anyone at the martial arts Academy or anyone you find wearing a martial arts uniform.  If you're doing this, what exactly do you see?  Is the spar interaction completely missing?  Is it grayed out?

Collecting in World Adventures works the same as when your Sim is in his/her home town.  When you see a rock or butterfly, click on it and you'll get the option to Catch or Pick Up or Collect.  Again, if you're already doing this, what happens?

When your graphics seem to get stuck, try a global reset:  Press Ctrl+Shift+C to open the cheats window, then type "ResetSim *" without the quotes, then press enter.  That will reset every Sim in the game and often helps it all to run smoother.

I sure hope we're able to help you enjoy playing World Adventures.  :)

Hi darski:
Can you tell us whether you have any mods or are using cheats that may bug your game?
My sim travels all the time, and I have not experienced many problems, except when I have forgotten to not turn off a cheat previously used. Then I get slow downs and slight sticking in movements.

I am going to fire up my game to check on things again.

I tried using "Page Up" to get to that second floor and now I can't remember exactly what it did but I know I could not get a store at all.  I find that this game is very dark with only a few hours of daylight.  I have a decent comp for memory and I did buy an improved graphics card.  it may still be not up to the game needs and my old eyes may not be seeing all that is there.

The only cheat that I have used is Motherlode.  I don't think I have any mods that are a problem.  what would you call a mod?  I had a bad world that I did dl from Sims ea but I had probs with travel before that and I got rid of the offending world right away - as did the Sims ea.

Generally, when I click on a sim at the academy, I get greet and I just recently got "train" but no other options.

I agree that I am probably just not playing the game correctly - which is why I was so happy to find your site.  I keep reading your guides and learn new stuff each time.

thank you for your kind offer of assistance to an "old simmer but new player in sims3".
 :)

This game is obviously totally corrupt for the China trip.

Just as an aside, how do I delete sims?... I don't want dozens of them hanging around doing nothing.  I can't find "saves" in my program files.

I found some stairs in the lower market and it took me to a library.  No other upper floors can be seen.

Just what "exactly" do I have to type for the reset?  I tried "resetsim*", "resetsimartie"  do I need a space in there?

I am going to ditch this game and start over with a new sim to see if I can get China to work.  the graphics on this one just won't work any more so it is not worth arguing with the game.

BTW I am not doing any challenges in China - I only want the Martial Arts time.  is this a problem for the game?

There are travel bugs, that's a definite fact.

Do you mean the sims that you aren't controlling at the time? Like the ones that are in a different household? They don't really matter, but if you really want to type in "testingcheatsenabled true" (without quotes) and then shift click them (hold down shift while clicking) and then click "object", then "delete it".

For all sims to be reset, the things you do is:
Hold control, shift, and C all at the same time.
The screen should darken, type in the top bar.
The thing you should type is "resetsim*" (without quotes)

Pjsim has an excellent post about how to use reset sim.

It might be just that save that is bad for china.

And no, going there just for the martial arts rather than the adventures doesn't matter.

Thank you all for your help but China is just completely bugged.  Brand new sim, first visit and the graphics stick and I cannot control my sim most of the time.

I didn't really want to do the travel part but I figured I should check it out since I paid for it.  I like to have all the EP's but that was based on how "The Sims" played.  I don't think I will do that or need to do that for Sims3.

Thanks folks, it's been real :D

@darski:

Is there any chance you could post some screenshots for us?  For example, a shot of what you see when you click the up arrow to see the upper level General Store in China.  If we can see exactly what it's doing, we might be able to help you more.  You're welcome to use our free image Gallery to upload screenshots for use on the Forum.  Instructions and information are here.

Hello Darski:

Could you post your computer specs please? CPU, RAM, GPU mainly.

You can find here the minimum system requirements to play the game and check if you meet them:
For the base game only: http://help.thesims.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1289/kw/SIMS%203%20system%20requirements
For BG + word adventure: http://help.thesims.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1339/kw/system%20requirements
For BG + Ambitions: http://help.thesims.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1347/kw/system%20requirements

From your explanations, it looks like your computer can't handle the game. Or something went wrong during installation and a complete reinstall could help. See here: http://help.thesims.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2693/kw/installation.

Is your game patched up to date?
Are your issue (graphic, lack of interactions on Sims, collecting...) only present in WA destinations, or do you have them too in home world (Sunset Valley...)?

I just recently had to have my hard disk replaced and it seems that Staples gave me a drive that is half of what I had.  of course what I had was Dell garbage.

quite frankly, I am not willing to spend any more money on this comp - I have now spent $300.oo more to fix and upgrade it than it cost me in the first place and I still have garbage.

I don't know how to read your suggested rates and then compare it to what I have.  This might as well be written in Klingon as far as I know.

Your specs look good, so no need to spend anymore $ on it! The graphic card is a bit weak, but not to the point of having such issues. Mine is similar and I can play just fine. So, in theory, you should be able to play too.

If this happens in China, it's maybe due to some bad design of this world. Had your Sims been visiting places around the Hot Springs and the fishing spot behind? If yes, then the game probably got stuck in some loop calculating the routing of the local Sims. We all suffer this and there is no official fix to the matter. The resetsim * command helps because all the inhabitants will be send back home. Yet, it's only temporary and you'll have to use again when the game starts to lag or freeze once more. The only thing that really helps is not to visit that zone.

Find more about Resetsim here: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=451.msg5513#msg5513

I can't find "saves" in my program files.
Saved games are not stored under program files but under C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Saves.
Each saved game has its own folder there.

Follow the path mentioned here above and rename the folder "The Sims 3" to something else, "The Sims 3 - back up" for instance. Start the game. A brand new folder will be recreated by the game, with all options reset to default. See if you have troubles again with China.

Do you have similar issues in other worlds? Twinbrook, Egypt, France, Sunset Valley?
