Using roofs to make walls
« on: September 21, 2011, 04:52:59 PM »
I was looking at some tutorials and ran across this one on using roofs to make walls. I couldn't find anything about it here so thought I would share.
I tried it out making a simple 12x12 building. Making it using normal walls it cost $3,360 to build. Using a half gable roof to make the walls it only cost $176 to build.

Wow, that's really cool, but it seems like a lot of work.

You can also do it with foundations. Turn constrainfloorelevation off and turn on moveobjects.  Build your foundation for the outside shell of the house. Place a single story column next to it, then level the top off. You'll still need to place the inside walls, but it's a heck of a saving :) Especially for starter homes. If you're building from edit town mode, then you should place the walls first to add the roof, then remove them and replace them with foundation, Otherwise you can't place a roof.

It is time consuming and I can't really see me using it except for maybe making a cheap home when just starting out with a new sim.
