I have noticed that there are a lot of books for what appears to be for general reading.  Some are quite expensive.  Is there any point to reading these books?  Do they enhance skills or hidden skills?  I am not talking about skill books, recipes, fishing books etc.  I am talking about the book that appear to be for pleasure reading.

Nothing, except for fun or if you are a writer you can write faster with every book you read up to 49 books.
