Repo man coming?
« on: April 28, 2013, 10:52:41 AM »
Hi all,

I like to switch between households and then come back to play one of my favorite ones but when I did I noticed that bills were left unpaid for too long and the repo man was coming.  Of course by then its too late and there's nothing I can do :(  I like to come back to my favorite households and see how the story progression is going and how everyone is doing.  Is there anything I can do about the repo man coming?  It's really aggravating after I redecorated the whole place for the family with all new stuff.  Is there anything that I can do make any of the sims know that they have to pay their bills regularly when I'm not playing the household?

Thanks :)

I dont think there is anything you can do. But he only takes a few things and you can go buy and replace them.
I love this forum and just want to say thank you to everyone! :) Have a great rest of your day!

Do you have World Adventures? The No Bills Ever reward for 15,000 happiness points will stop bills coming in for your sim families. Though one person would need to buy it for each of your main families. I don't think there's any way you can get them to pay them.

Bills only should come to the active household. Are you saying there are bills in the Sim's inventory or waiting in the mailbox? There should be neither when you take over the household, but they will arrive within a day or two.  Would you please provide more information?

Hi,

No I don't have world adventures just the base game, sims3.  I went into edit town and switched between so many households, at one point the game did crash and when it came  back to the main screen or main menu it showed a different active household.  That's no problem because I want the story progression to go on with each one and I like going back to check on the families to see how they are doing and what's going on.  Sometimes I stay with one household and keep saving the game before I quit or when I am in the game playing I save the game periodically while playing so I don't lose anything because sometimes I do play for hours lol.

I guess it just depends on the household and whether they go to pay their bills or not on their own free will.  It's no problem I can replace the stuff.  I notice however that even when high free will is turned on there are some things sims just won't do on their own, like woohoo or pay bills and of course they won't leave the house on their own unless they go to work.  Why is that?  Its really something what the sims do sometimes like the kids will be up at like 4 am doing homework and get hardly any sleep  when school is in a few hrs.  Or when they cook and will walk all the way to another stove when one is right in front of them lol.  Sorry I forgot to add the bills are in the mailbox not inventory.  Hope I cleared that up a little.

Thanks for your help :)

What might be happening, since you change households is, that maybe when you are playing one household and the bills don't get paid and then you change to another household and then go back to the first one, it might have been to the stage of the repo man coming anyway, so when you went back, the repo man showed up.  Did that make sense.  I love to change households, but for some reason, before I get the "no bills ever" with my happiness points, I always forget about those silly bills, so what I have had happen, I left one household, then came back to it and not too long after that, repo man shows up, so that might be what is happening.  Pam is right, unfortunately, they do not pay them on their own.

I do know, that if you have a family that is not your active family, they love to get into their formal attire and go out.  When I switch household, they are never home and if they have toddlers, there is always a babysitter in the house, which I always thought was pretty cool.  Mine likes to go to the lounges and sometimes find them reading at the library. :)

I am having similar problem in my neighborhood. I like to switch households in one neighborhood. I just moved my brand new family into a house that my other family moved out of. Well, when the new family moved in the repo man greeted them at front door. He's been standing there now for 2 sims weeks, and he won't go away.  I think they are my other family's bills, who moved out and are living in a different house now. The repo man ruins my sim's moods, and they cannot use certain things. He just stands there threatening to take things, and nothing happens. The game won't let me edit neighborhood, and it won't let me switch households, or build, or buy. Very frustrating!  What can I do? i  want him to hurry up and take the stuff, so I can continue to play, but the game is almost like frozen, but only in that neighborhood. and I can still play my sims, but they have to leave their house all day to be happy, and stay at spa.  Any suggestions?

Have you tried:
  • Resetsim (the name of the repoman)
  • Resetsim *
  • Using edit town to evict the family to the clipboard and then moving them straight back in from the cliboard
  • Using moveobjects on to delete the reproman
I don't know if any of these will solve the problem, but this is what I would try in the order given.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but if the resetSim doesn't work, then maybe try testingcheatsenabled true then shift click on the repo man and say delete. Not for sure on the accuracy of that suggestion, but I thought I'd drop in my suggestion.

I also had a small problem concerning the bills and the repoman in my game. My sim is poor and lives in a small house he can afford. In his house there is a parking lot. So, one day I invite Thorton Wolff. He stay for the night and leave next day. That day, the bill come and it was OMG 1,500 simoleons. He has only 700 in his funds. So, after several notification, the repoman come and take all the items he had in the house. He could have earn the money but I was playing a challenge(mine). So, can anyone tell me how this happens. His household+house funds is only 6,000. And I have only Base Game.

I've had something similar happen. The wealthy visitor's car was in my parking space for a while (not even overnight) and when the bill came the next day, it was four or five times higher than the tiny bills I'd been getting. I haven't looked at the code, but I'm guessing the game looks at all your stuff at a certain time, and if something is on your lot at that time, you're billed as if it belongs to you. I used cheats to cover the bill, but I've never been very picky about money cheats. I have to worry about money in real life, I don't want to do it in a game. I guess either delete the parking space or try not to invite rich people the day before the bills come.
