Social Interaction: Express Sympathy
« on: March 06, 2011, 12:29:28 PM »
I have an itinerant sculptor who hangs out in Central Park and sculpts the townspeople.  He is a sociable sort of fellow and knows most of the locals at this point.  Among his many friends is a woman named Tricia Durbin.  Every time he talks to any of the town's residents, the option to "express sympathy for Tricia" comes up as a Friendly option.  This woman is still alive, and I'd sure like to know what this is all about.  Any ideas?

I had this happen to me.  I can't remember the townie names for sure, but I think it was Cyclone and Emma.  But I saw Emma kiss a different Sim in front of Cyclone (her boyfriend).  They had the red negative reactions above their heads.  After that every person I talked to I had the "express sympathy for Cyclone" option, even though he was not my friend.  The option never went away.  I think it is a bug.

Yeah, I was wondering why the option to Express sympathy came up with every sim my fellow talked to - surely a lot of those people don't even know the woman!  It makes sense that it's a bug, something that just got stuck for some reason.  Thanks, gerr00.

I've had this option, too.  I don't think it's a bug or anything.  The sympathy is for a Sim who gets cheated on by a spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend.  It doesn't matter if the other Sims don't know the couple.  It's like gossip that spreads and everyone knows about it and they feel sorry for the one who got cheated on.

I thought it might be a bug because that option never went away, I played that game from YA to elder (without dying).  After that became an option, it never went away.  It had lasted through 3 ages, YA, A and elder.  I do agree with you, Pam, that getting the option is not a bug, just the length of time that it stayed.  Sorry if what I had wrote was mis-leading.  :)

I got that a lot. Well "Express sympathy for Sandi" on quite a lot of Sims, which made me look confused at the screen and go "who"? I later found her as a distant friend to most of the Sims I played.

In my Khalid dynasty Denver cheated on his girlfriend Crystal with Morgana Wolff. He was seen cheating by his brother Alfie. All the way through Alfie's life he had the option to express sympathy for Crystal even after Crystal had passed. I guess Alfie was never able to forgive his brother for cheating on Crystal. Crystal was fine with the situation eventually marrying Denver and as for the Wolff's they got back together and had a baby who eventually went on to have three children with Arthur Khalid(who was Denver and Crystals great grandson.)

Long story short I think the option to give sympathy to a person being cheated on lasts all the way through the sympathetic persons life.
